PROJECT UPDATE: In a major project milestone ESPANA 2030, the first of two new 100% electric, zero-emission Ro-Pax fast ferries Incat Crowther has designed for Baleària has been successfully launched by Astilleros Armon in Gijón, Spain.

ESPAÑA 2030 and its sister vessel will be equipped with an electric power capacity of 16MW, delivered through four electric propulsion units powered by 14 MWh battery banks.

The ferries will carry up to 804 passengers and 225 vehicles at a maximum speed of 26 knots.

The new vessels will form the first green corridor between Europe and Africa when they enter service on the busy Tarifa, Spain to Tangier, Morrocco route.

In this short video, Matt Jupp – Principal Naval Architect for Incat Crowther Europe, describes the range of low and zero emission technology solutions Incat Crowther is deploying across our vessel portfolio.

Incat Crowther takes a technology-agnostic approach to vessel design, with solutions spanning all-electric, battery-hybrid, diesel-hybrid, methanol, hydrogen and ammonia-powered vessels, among others.

Importantly, Incat Crowther works closely with operators to understand their operational requirements. This ensures our team recommend only the solution that best suits each client's requirements.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION: Construction on the two new all-electric 43-metre ferries Incat Crowther has designed for San Francisco Bay Ferry is progressing well.

This timelapse footage, taken at US shipbuilder Nichols Brothers Boat Builders, shows the hull of the first vessel in the fleet of two being flipped – ready for the superstructure to be installed.

When complete, the new vessels will be capable of transporting 400 passengers and 60 bicycles at speeds of up to 25 knots and will be amongst the most technologically advanced all-electric ferries operating anywhere in the world.

In a bid to maximise operational efficiency, the vessels will be charged via specifically designed electric charging floats. The charging floats will ensure the vessels can be recharged during passenger loading and unloading, and will serve as the embarkation and disembarkation pathway.

NEWS: Offshore energy services provider Zamil Offshore has commissioned Incat Crowther and Singaporean shipbuilder Lita Ocean to design, build and deliver a fourth 60-metre ABS-Classed monohull Fast Support Intervention Vessel (FSIV).

The project follows the delivery of the third vessel in the original fleet with the fleet’s exceptional performance leading to the order of a fourth vessel.

Capable of transporting 56 personnel at speeds up to 36 knots, the vessels are powered by four MTU 16V4000 diesel engines coupled to ZF gearboxes driving Hamilton HT810 waterjets. The main deck offers an expansive aft cargo deck rated at 2.5 t/ m2 along with an optional Palfinger PK12000M deck crane.

The FSIV fleet is assisting Zamil Offshore with the efficient and safe transport of cargo, heavy maintenance equipment and personnel for Saudi Aramco’s operations in the Arabian Sea.
