For those who put in a special request … the Supervisor 🦺has been very busy lately .

Penny has been attending site meetings, reviewing flooring selections, considering exterior work required and overseeing demolition works.

Her main responsibilities include:
• inspecting materials
• supervising trades
• and enforcing mandatory nap breaks on those big demo days

As you can see, quality control is exhausting.

The renovation is officially underway — I’ll start sharing some progress soon!

Back to sharing some behind-the-scenes from the Brisbane Southside project 🌳🏡

This was the tree-lopping stage, an essential early step before demolition and the house move. It’s always interesting to see how much groundwork happens long before the transformation really starts.

For anyone who missed the earlier posts, this project involved a full house move, raising a spare house onto the block and preparing it for a major conversion. I’ll be sharing more moments like this as I ease back into posting and prepare for the next renovation.

Remember the roof tile treasure hunt from a few weeks ago? 🏠🔍

After 4 days of professional roof restoration (with a slight delay due to windy weather 🌬️), the house now has a fully restored and beautifully finished roof! 🙌✨

What we did:
• Sourced some of the rare tiles myself, with the team matching the rest 🔹
• Cleaned and sealed the roof 🧹
• Painted the roof, gutters, fascia & garage door 🎨
• Fixed leaks and ensured all tiles matched perfectly 💪

I was so grateful the rain held off — it was looking very gloomy, but we got it done! ☀️

Spent some time on a bit of a roof tile treasure hunt for my latest renovation 🏠🔍

The house is about 20 years old, and of course… the original tiles aren’t made anymore 😅
There were only four spares left at the property, but I needed at least a dozen.

After checking online options (plenty of “no luck!” moments), a few phone calls, and a helpful tip from a friend, I finally tracked down the exact tiles 🙌

They’re a bit pricier these days since they’re rare — but worth it to fix the water leaks from the broken tiles!

Feels good to tick this one off the list. On to the next step 💪✨

Building skills, one wall at a time.

I’ve been busy continuing to invest in hands-on learning that helps me build on skills to deliver quality renovation results. I recently expanded my skills by building a wall—framing, gyprocking & patching. Practical experience like this sharpens my skills and strengthens my expertise as I prepare for renovation projects. 🛠️

Happy Friday! 😃

Some of the things I love about renovating are that it gives me the opportunity to create, be hands-on, and give back when I can.

Like when I joined a group of friends for the 5km Fun Run on International Women’s Day — pink shirts, tutus and all! 💪 The event raised funds for cancer research, and it was such a fun way to support a great cause.

It’s always rewarding to be part of something that brings people together and makes a positive impact. 💕

What is Chalking? (And how can we stop it from happening?)

Chalking is seen when a powder appears on the surface of paint, which is caused by a breakdown of the inner components of the product.

🏡Exposure to the sun over time. Generally, the more intense the ultraviolet rays, the more potential there is for chalking to occur
🏡The use of darker colours than recommended by your substrate provider
🏡Thin or uneven coats of paint
🏡Using paints or products that are not for external use

Prevention:
🎨Ensure you use exterior specific products that are resistant to ultraviolet rays
🎨Look to use lighter colours where possible
🎨Using a higher sheen level can help to maintain the appearance

Ever take on a project so big you question your sanity halfway through? This was mine! 😅 This Brisbane Rooming House Conversion project had me saying WOW! I have to say, it’s one of my proudest achievements to date.

This project was monumental from start to finish — but lessons aren’t learned by taking the easy path. The original asbestos-filled house was demolished, a ‘spare’ house I had on hand was brought in, raised, built in underneath, and converted into a compliant rooming house.

And I still really love those original timber posts that I just had to leave in the kitchen.
