The deep red brick that gives the terrace its name finds its echo inside, in the red-veined stone of the island set against dark timber walls. The house steps down with the site's natural fall, its living room held between courtyard and garden.

Afton Residence · Aberfeldie · In documentation
The kitchen is kept to pale stone and blond timber, a veined marble panel rising behind the island as the room's one flourish. Outside, an arched window anchors the corner of the house, cut into a curved volume above layered white forms. Construction begins on site later this year.

The single mass of the street elevation is rising course by course. Inside, the stair has begun its wrap around the central spine, and when the front door stands open, brick will run unbroken from the street to the hall.

Monarch takes its name from the monolithic character of its street elevation, where light off-white brick allows the facade to read as a single, solid mass. Hit-and-miss brickwork and an upper louvred screen add depth, filtered light and northern sun control.

The kitchen is built around a stone island set against dark timber joinery, sheer curtains softening a full wall of glass. The same timber carries into the main bedroom, so the house reads as one material story from its centre out.

A white gable holds the street line, and a darker volume steps back behind it, leaving the garden to carry the corner. The palette is kept to two moves so the light between them does the rest.

We’re looking for an experienced Project Architect to join our studio in Essendon.

We design homes around the way people live, with a focus on thoughtful design and carefully resolved details. As part of our small team, you’ll work closely with our director and senior staff, leading projects through design, documentation and construction.

We’d love to hear from someone who enjoys taking a project from the first sketch through to completion and brings care and curiosity to their work.

We’re looking for:
• Five or more years’ experience as a project architect or project lead
• Proficiency in AutoCAD
• A design-led approach
• Sound knowledge of residential construction and detailing.

Green marble runs the island bench, and the dining table sits between kitchen and fireplace so the slow hours hold the centre of the plan. The same stone returns in the bath, one material carried through the house from its most social room to its most private.

McPherson Residences · Essendon · Under construction
Conceived as a dual occupancy that resists the familiar reading of a townhouse pair: the two residences share mirrored plans, yet each is detailed as an individual house with its own street identity. After dark, openings between the aluminium battens reveal a translucent garage door, giving the corner a lantern-like glow.

The main bedroom at the Bournian Residence was designed to offer complete retreat.

Positioned within the plan to maximise quiet, the room is soft in proportion and minimal in detail, where the architecture steps back entirely to let calm take over.

Floor-to-ceiling draping filters the light without blocking it, and the sense of enclosure is deliberate.

A room that holds Joel's mother in exactly the way the rest of the home was designed to.

Secure, unhurried, and entirely her own.
