From rough Australian Messmate timber to a finished boutique tube amplifier!

Here's a quick look at the workshop process behind our custom Achillies Apollo Nyx 8W.

Every piece of timber has its own character, and that's what makes these builds so special.

No background music — just the natural sounds of the workshop.

From a piece of raw Australian Messmate to a finished Apollo Nyx.
We recently built this one from feature-grade Australian Messmate, keeping all the natural character of the timber and filling the cracks in black to really bring out the grain.
I filmed the entire process in the workshop — no background music, just the sounds of the machines, woodworking and the amp coming together.
Really happy with how this one turned out.

What happens when you run a $3,000 fuzz pedal into an already cranked 6V6 tube amp? 🔥
The Achillies Apollo Quad is already producing plenty of its own natural saturation here, running through our Phoenix 4x10 loaded with four Jensen P10/40 Blackbirds.
Then we bring in the Cesar Diaz Texas Square Face to push it even harder — followed by the Strymon Volante Magnetic Echo Machine, which adds a completely different dimension to the sound.
The pedals aren't creating the foundation of the tone. The Apollo Quad is already doing that. They're taking an already cranked tube amp somewhere else.

Building amplifiers is one thing. Sitting down with world-class musicians and learning from them is another.
Thanks to and for spending the day at the Achillies workshop testing amps, comparing speakers, and helping refine a few ideas. Even after years of building, there's always something new to learn.
A great day chasing great tone.

20 years ago, Achillies Amps started with a passion for handcrafted tone, high voltage, and uncompromising sound.

What began in 2006 as a vision to build amplifiers with soul has grown into two decades of custom builds, loud stages, studio sessions, and an incredible community of players who believe tone still matters.

To everyone who has supported us over the years — thank you.

This anniversary belongs to every guitarist, musician, customer, dealer, and friend who became part of the journey.

Here’s to 20 years of valves, volume, and analog rebellion.
