❤️💛🖤Happy NAIDOC Week from Wadda Maintenance Solutions!❤️💛🖤
NAIDOC Week is one of our favourite times of the year; a chance to celebrate culture, community and the incredible strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
For those who don't know us, we're Jake and Savanah, the faces behind Wadda Maintenance Solutions. As an Aboriginal owned business, we're proud to work across Palmerston and Darwin, but we're just as passionate about giving back to the community we call home.
Sav here, for me personally, NAIDOC Week means so much more than a celebration. My family has fought hard to stay connected to our culture, our community and each other, and that's something I'm incredibly proud of. I am from Dalabon Country through my maternal grandfather Harry Allard, who was raised on Crocker Island Missionary from 3 years of age. Wadda actually means “home/camp” in language. My father was also a Kalkadoon man, but was raised here on Larrakia Country as my mother Serena and I were. Carrying those connections with me is something I never take for granted, and I hope to pass that pride and knowledge on to the next generation. 👣
We're proud to work alongside Grassroots Action Palmerston, supporting programs and events that bring our community together and create opportunities for our mob.
Outside of Wadda, I also run a community playgroup every Friday and have since January 2025. Today we celebrated with a special NAIDOC Week playgroup, and it was amazing to see so many families come together. Seeing the kids learning, playing and celebrating together was something really special.
NAIDOC Week isn't over yet! We'll be around at more events over the weekend, with our next stop being Family Day at SWELL on Sunday!! If you see us out and about, please come and say Gday, we love a yarn and laugh!
Happy NAIDOC Week you mob. We hope to see you out there celebrating! ❤️💛🖤
