We just installed 4 beautiful garden beds at a school in Mudgee, including a wheelchair accessible bed

School gardens almost always die in the same moment: the holidays. Six weeks over summer is enough to kill anything in a regular bed.

Our timber wicking beds solve that. Fill the reservoir from a hose for a couple of minutes at the end of term, and the bed keeps itself watered for weeks.

That's why most of our NSW schools choose wicking over conventional raised beds. They're grant-friendly, food-safe, and we're fully set up for school sites (public liability, WWCC, White Card, Buy.NSW registered).

Recent installs include Gunnedah South, Newington College and Hurlstone Agricultural.

Local tip for Shire gardeners: if your veggie patch turns into a crispy disappointment every time you go away for the summer holidays, there's a better way. We're a Miranda-based small business building premium raised wicking beds that water themselves from a reservoir in the base β€” so the garden keeps thriving while you're at the beach. We've put them in all over the Shire, from Cronulla to Caringbah and beyond. Have a look at what we do for local gardens here :

Premium timber wicking beds built and installed across the Sutherland Shire, from Cronulla to Miranda. Self-watering raised garden beds made to last.

We've just launched something we're really proud of β€” accessible raised garden beds for aged care.

Gardening is one of the simplest joys there is, but a normal garden bed leaves out anyone who can't kneel, bend or manage a watering can. Ours are built waist-height and wheelchair-accessible, so residents can garden standing, seated or with a hand from a carer β€” and because the beds water themselves, there's no daily upkeep for staff.

The result is something residents genuinely look forward to: fresh herbs and veg they grow and pick themselves, a reason to get outside, and a shared patch that brings people together. We design, build and install across Sydney and regional NSW.

If you're at an aged care home, retirement village or independent living community, we'd love to show you what's possible.

Trying to fund a veggie garden at your school? The Stephanie Alexander grant isn't your only option β€” and depending on your council, it might not even be the easiest one to get.

Over the past few years we've installed wicking beds at schools across Sydney and regional NSW through programs like the City of Ryde's Edible Gardens in Schools project. So we've put together a practical rundown of what's actually out there: council grants, statewide programs, and a few easy-to-miss options most schools never think to check (your Local Health District being one of them).

We've also shared the four things every funded application we've seen has in common β€” including the one most schools forget about: a holiday-watering plan. (Spoiler: it's where wicking beds quietly win.)

If you're a teacher or P&C lead scoping a garden, have a read β€” and if you need a realistic costing to drop into your budget section, get in touch. No obligation, just a number you can actually use.

Most school veggie gardens start with good intentions and end the same way β€” soft, blackened pine, blown-out corners, and plants that give up over the holidays.

It doesn't have to go that way. We build premium timber wicking beds for schools that are made to be a twenty-year fixture, not a two-year experiment β€” food-safe, fully lined, and self-watering, so they sail through the school break without anyone touching a hose.

From Pennant Hills High to Hurlstone Agricultural College to a rooftop garden at Newington, here's why a growing number of NSW schools are building theirs once and building them properly.
