Perth’s coastline is continuing to change, and Ocean Reef Marina is one of the clearest examples of what that growth looks like.

With more than 1,000 homes planned across 65 hectares of waterfront, the development is moving into its residential phase after years of major civil and marine works.

Projects like this bring plenty of fencing challenges with them: staged site security, changing access requirements, boundary definition across multiple lots, and permanent fencing around public spaces that has to perform in a coastal environment.

That’s the kind of work we’re set up for.

From our Balcatta base, WA Fenceworks delivers commercial and civil fencing across Perth and surrounds, with the capability to support large, staged developments as they take shape.

Ocean Reef Marina is one project. Perth’s coastal growth story is much bigger.

What goes into fencing a major road or rail project?

As works move through different stages, the fencing often has to move with them.

That can mean temporary site security, controlled access points, separation between work zones, secure compounds, pedestrian boundaries and permanent fencing around live infrastructure.

The challenge is making it all work around plant movements, changing access requirements, other trades, utilities, public interfaces and tight construction programs.

Take the planned Anketell Road Upgrade. Stage One includes a dual carriageway, a grade-separated interchange at Rockingham Road and provision for a future freight rail corridor connecting to the future Westport precinct.

It’s a good example of why civil and transport fencing takes more than installing posts and mesh. It takes planning, coordination and solutions that can adapt as the project progresses.

With the 2026–27 WA Budget committing $1.1 billion jointly with the Commonwealth to Anketell Road, alongside further investment in Great Northern Highway works and regional bridge replacements, there’s plenty more major infrastructure work ahead.

A strong infrastructure pipeline is good news for everyone building WA.

October is National Safe Work Month, a reminder that safety isn’t something you switch on for one month of the year.

In fencing, our crews work around machinery, live sites, heavy materials, welding, excavation and other trades. Good safety comes down to the habits followed every day: planning the job properly, communicating clearly, using the right equipment and looking out for the people around you.

At WA Fenceworks, the aim is simple: get the job done properly, and make sure everyone gets home safely at the end of it.

Because safe work is for life.

In our line of work, we don’t always get to make things look inviting. But when it comes to security fencing, that's not usually the aim.

We like to think there’s a certain beauty in a well-built palisade fence that does exactly what it’s meant to do: creates a clear boundary, controls access and keeps people where they’re supposed to be.

This one was installed in Mandurah for Devlyn, with palisade security fencing, custom-fabricated posts and associated gates designed to suit the site.

Maybe not the warmest welcome, but that’s kind of the point.

With the weather warming up, we’ve been thinking back to one of the better office views we’ve had.

In 2024, our team travelled to the Cocos (Keeling) Islands to supply and install chainmesh security fencing, three rows of barbed wire and associated chainmesh gates.

A memorable location, but the brief was much the same as any other project: plan properly, work safely and deliver a secure, practical result suited to the site.

Not a bad place to get the job done.

FLEET UPDATE 📣

We've recently added 5 new utes across WA Fenceworks and Bithuwarnda Fenceworks PTY LTD, and it's a welcome upgrade.

Between commercial jobs and specialised work further out, our crews are on the road constantly. Reliable vehicles matter.

This means less downtime and more capacity to keep up with how busy we've been.

WA home builds are running at their highest level in over seven years, and population growth is outpacing new supply across the state.

Every new community that gets built on the back of that growth needs its own layer of enabling infrastructure first, and most of it needs fencing before it needs anything else.

Swipe through to see what has to go in before the first home does, and where WA Fenceworks fits in.

$176 billion and counting.

That's the scale of WA's resources project pipeline as of March 2026 - $55 billion already committed or under construction, and a further $121 billion sitting in medium-to-longer-term planned and possible projects across the state.

Worth being clear-eyed about that second number. Not every planned or possible project gets to construction. Investment decisions get deferred, scopes get scaled back, some don't proceed at all.

Even on the conservative end, $55 billion of committed and active work is already moving through the Pilbara and WA's processing hubs right now.

That's sites being established today. Every one of those sites needs to be secured before anything else happens: perimeter security, temporary fencing, controlled access for contractors and machinery, usually on a timeline that doesn't leave room to wait.

For mine site managers and civil contractors moving a project from approval into construction, fencing that's ready to go at the pace of the build isn't a nice-to-have, it's what keeps site establishment on schedule.

WA Fenceworks delivers site security and temporary fencing across WA's resources and civil projects, built for the conditions, sized for the scale, ready when your project is.

September 10 is R U OK? Day.

In our industry, that question carries more weight than most people realise.

Research surveying WA construction workers found suicidal thoughts and behaviours are around three times higher than the general adult population, with depression and anxiety symptoms roughly double the national average.

Loneliness came out as the single biggest risk factor and strong relationships, on-site and off, were the strongest protection against it.

Our industry runs hard. Long days, physical work, tight deadlines, sites that don't stop.

It's easy for a genuine "how are you going?" to get lost in the noise, but it might be the most important thing said on a job site all day.

This R U OK? Day, take the time. Ask a mate. Ask a colleague. Ask twice if the first answer doesn't sit right. Listen without rushing to fix it. And check in again next week, not just today.

From all of us at WA Fenceworks, are you okay?

WA already has some of the busiest and most important ports in the world, and the next wave of investment is set to put even more pressure on the infrastructure around them.

Port Hedland handled 580 million tonnes of cargo last financial year - one of the busiest ports on the planet. Continued investment in projects like the Zone 5 Bypass reflects just how much vessel, site and workforce safety matters at that scale.

Bunbury is a different story: smaller, but preparing for real growth. The State's $4.8 million commitment to the Bunbury Port Optimisation Plan is about future-proofing the port for what's coming next.

Whether it is a major iron ore export terminal or a regional port preparing for what comes next, port and rail infrastructure depends on controlled access.

Perimeter fencing needs to manage heavy vehicles, contractors and pedestrians, protect operational zones and equipment, and work around a site that may operate around the clock.

It cannot slow the operation down. And it cannot be treated as an add-on once the site is already live.

Good perimeter planning starts early and considers how the precinct operates today, how construction will be staged and how access requirements may change as the site grows.

WA Fenceworks delivers perimeter security and controlled-access solutions for port, rail and logistics infrastructure across WA.
