15 days in and there's a lot more green but still a way to go (looks a lot better from the side than from above πŸ˜…) still needs a bit more time and a couple more mows to fill in completely πŸ‘

Did a very lite application of fertiliser today and watered it in well πŸ’§πŸ’§

If you have these strange looking growths within your buffalo lawn you're not alone!

They're buffalo seed heads and will pop up from time to time. They're completely normal, just make sure the lawn is getting regular nutrients and adequate water along with frequent mowing and they will pass πŸ‘Œ

17 days can make a lot of difference πŸ‘Œ

This time of year lawns respond to products much faster so if you were battling your lawn through winter and struggled to get a result, now is a good time to get back out there and give it another go.

Here we applied granular fertiliser followed immediately by a mix of liquid wetting agent, kelp and humic acid then watered the whole lot in thoroughly πŸ’§πŸ’§

I'll admit it... I'm out here 2-3 times a day checking out the new growth and you may think this is excessive (my wife definitely does) but I can't help myself 🀣

I had some good timing with a bit of rain after the scalp so I've only watered once so far but as it warms up and the rains dry up I'll be out there with my hose more often.

A mixture of relief and excitement when you see your first green shoots coming through 🀣 🌱

Regular watering now to ensure it doesn't dry out as it warms up.

Fun fact... a lawn that has been scalped or vertimowed needs significantly more water to bounce back. This is because the soil gets a lot hotter resulting in more evaporation during the recovery phase as it doesnt have the nice dense canopy to insulate the soil. Water + wetting agent to make sure the water gets nice and deep into the soil πŸ‘

How long until it's green again? ⏱️

This is a good example of what you can achieve with a scalp, to go even lower you would need a vertimower or scarifier to finish it off but this isn't essential for what i'm looking to achieve.

I'll keep you updated on how it's recovering and what I'm applying to it πŸ‘

So far:

Royal Green Mini-prill granular fertiliser followed by Hydrate wetting agent, Kelp Guard and Thrive. All three liquids mixed up in a hose on sprayer and applied over the top of the fertiliser, then the whole lot was watered in thoroughly (very important)πŸ’§πŸ’§

Verge Scalp 2026 - Part 1

I got excited yesterday and gave the lawn a scalp with zero planning. Didn't have enough space in the bin so I had to wait for the bin to be emptied before I carry on.

Thankfully that happened this morning so now I'm good to go again. I'll go a couple of notches lower, nothing crazy, I'm not going to vertimow it unless I get incredibly inspired.

And before you ask... yes I will do the edges, probably not very well but I will do them βœ…οΈ

If you've done a whoopsie and forgotten about your lawn over the cooler months than join the club 🀣

Our verge hasn't had much love and gets driven on daily so it's looking sadder than me on a Monday morning before work.

Luckily it is spring which is the ideal time to give the lawn the nutrients it needs to bounce back.

Follow along for part 2 in a few weeks when the lawn is looking spectacular 🀞

If you haven't run or checked your sprinklers for a while now is a pretty good time to give them a little test πŸ’§πŸ’§

It's still relatively cool so if you do identify any issues you can sort them out before it gets properly hot and the lawn suffers.

Aim for 10-12mm of water over the lawn each time you run your sprinklers πŸ‘

If your lawn looks lush and green before a mow and then a little sad after it, you may be mowing a little too low.

Here's 3 things you can to to sort it out and get the lawn looking better after each mow πŸ‘
