πŸ‹ Time to prune your citrus! 🍊

Now is a great time to give your citrus a "tree service". A prune now keeps trees compact and manageable, encourages flowers and fruit, and stimulates healthy new growth over spring.

My citrus tree service includes:
-Pruning to shape and size
-Advice on caring for your trees to maximise productivity
-Check for pests and disease, with organic treatment if needed
-Removal of citrus gall wasp galls (critical to do now!)
-A protective kaolin clay spray to help prevent reinfestation, if required

Doing it yourself? Cut off any galls and seal them in a bag in the general waste, not the green bin.

To book, send me a message or give me a call on 0412 009 426 and we'll find a time that suits.

"Amanda's wealth of knowledge on how to care for fruit trees and promote fruit production is exceptional, and each time I've used her services she has explained what she is doing and why it is beneficial for the health of the tree. Amanda is also willing to answer any questions you may have, and provides advice that is easy to understand and apply. If you want help to shape your fruit trees effectively to produce bountiful yields, then Amanda is definitely the one to ask!"

Thank you for trusting me with your trees!

Don't wait for summer stress to show up in your trees -a bit of care now goes a long way. With the heat on its way, it's the perfect time to sort out any pest issues, structural problems, or general TLC your trees need.

The winter pruning window is closing fast!

If winter pruning your fruit trees has been on your to-do list, now's the time - the window is closing quickly.

Winter pruning is especially valuable for young trees (to encourage strong, vigorous growth) and for trees that need a structural prune to improve shape and future productivity.

Many trees are already blossoming and growing - the good news is it's still fine to prune while trees are in flower, but there's only a small window left for peach, nectarine, fig and plum trees. Apple and pear trees generally have a bit more time up their sleeve.

πŸ“… Get in touch if you'd like to book in before the window closes!

Most of us love a good combustion heater on these chilly winter days, but if you've been spreading wood ash around the base of your fruit trees, please STOP β€” especially here in Adelaide.
Wood ash is very alkaline, and most of our soils in Adelaide are already alkaline to begin with. Adding ash to soils pushes the pH even higher, which can make it harder for trees to access nutrients like iron, manganese and zinc β€” even when those nutrients are present in the soil. Over time this often shows up as yellowing leaves and slower, weaker growth.
Many parts of Australia have acidic soils, where a small amount of ash can actually be beneficial. But in Adelaide (and Perth, which has similar alkaline soils), it's generally best avoided around trees.
If you're not sure what your soil is doing, a simple pH test kit from the hardware store or nursery is an easy way to check before adding anything.
