We're building a tropical greenhouse and food forest, which will eventually become a community space, in growing zone 3B. Lemons. Avocados. Long-term vision?

We'd love for you to follow our journey! We're on a mission to build a tropical greenhouse-meets-community space that feels like an escape without having to fly across the world in Zone 3B (aka: the zone where nothing grows for half the year). Here’s the plan:

Phase 1: Buy the land (we’re here now). Phase 2: Build the greenhouse.
↳ Big, warm, tropical vibes.
↳ Bananas. Phase 3: Add a sauna, fire pit, cozy hang-out corners. Phase 4: Open it up to locals + travelers can...
- reconnect with nature
- eat real food,
- warm up. A full-blown food forest with...
- memberships,
- daily passes,
- a small café,
- maybe even sleepover options. (Greenhouse Airbnb anyone?)

We’re thinking of calling it Zone 3B or Zone 3B Oasis. We don’t have millions of dollars to fund this. Nor do we totally know what we’re doing. But we’re doing it because we want to
- grow our own food
- escape the soul-sucking winters
- build a community around healthy living
- show you how you can do it too (even in Canada). This isn’t just a “business” for us. It’s building the kind of life we want to live. And documenting every step of the journey, so you can follow along on this “unrealistic” journey. If you’ve been watching from a distance, this is your official invite to come closer. After almost a six-week wait, we finally have a roof!

Now, it suddenly feels like the project’s moving at hyper speed. Walls are going up, windows and doors are coming in, the metal roof package is about to go on.

Here I was thinking we’d need to live in an igloo this winter!

We harvested our first no-effort tomato this week!

After Alex spread compost to help our new fruit trees grow, some of it must have carried over some tomato sprouts. And before we knew it, we had full-blown tomatoes growing right in front of our build.

Maybe I’m biased…but I swear these tomatoes taste sweeter!

After a long and frustrating process, our roof is finally on its way!

BIG UPDATE!

Man, building a home doesn’t quite feel real until you drop that first big paycheck.

This week, we signed the final contract with our project manager and put down that first deposit to get work going.

We start building our home in the next few weeks, and plan to have it completed by the end of summer!
