Yessssss! We have officially started! We are here, ready and excited to be part of this great journey of learning, connection, and peacebuilding.
The YENA Peace Camp, taking place here in Rwanda, mainly in Huye at the SOVO Monastery, has officially been opened by Prof. Kazuyuki Sasaki, Coordinator of CRASPD and representative of the Vice-Chancellor, together with Olu Ojedokun, representing the university administration.
This opening marks the beginning of a great activity bringing together young people from different countries and regions, including Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, South Sudan, Spain, and Japan.
However, we deeply regret that some participants coming from Goma, DRC, were unable to cross the border and join us. This situation truly touches us, and we are sincerely sorry for their absence. We are thinking of them and truly wish they could have been here with us to share this important experience.
Today, together with our facilitators, we are learning about trauma, stress, and the different challenges faced by young people, through the HROC – Healing and Rebuilding Our Communities approach.
It is therefore a moment to learn, listen, reflect, and better understand how healing and resilience can contribute to peace.
But this camp is not only about learning. It is also an opportunity to **network, expand our networks, exchange experiences, and learn from one another** about **governance, unity, leadership, peacebuilding, and cooperation among young people across borders.
I am especially happy to see some members of SJAGL-Afrique, an organization I deeply carry in my heart, taking part in this experience and contributing to this shared vision of peace in the Great Lakes Region.
We sincerely thank GIZ for its continued support to initiatives like this, which create opportunities for young people to learn, connect, and contribute to sustainable peace.
We also extend our appreciation to every person and organization that has contributed morally, technically, and physically to making this activity a success.
This is only the beginning.
Let us keep learning.
Let us keep connecting.
Let us keep building bridges.
Let us keep working together for peace.
