“Heat recovery causes unpleasant drafts.” 🌪️

A well-designed system operates at outlet airspeeds of around 2 m/s. The design must ensure that in the occupied zone, air moves at a gentle 0.1–0.2 m/s, which is even less than the natural convection from a radiator.

❌ What can cause draft discomfort?
• Poor outlet placement or design
• Unbalanced system
• Excessively high airflow
✅ Solution: A professional design and balanced commissioning. Properly installed, airflow is so subtle it’s imperceptible.

🔥 ATREA technology:
DUPLEX Inter H units (e.g., 770 and 1000) utilize the Coandă effect – air clings to the ceiling and gently descends, creating zero draft sensation and smooth mixing of air across the room.

“Heat recovery dries out the air in buildings.” 💧

Heat recovery systems only exchange air between the interior and exterior. However, during standard winter operation, the relative humidity can drop below the optimal range of 30–60% due to the very low specific humidity of outdoor air (around 4 g of water v***r per kg of air in winter), whereas indoor air ideally needs around 9 g/kg.

✅ How to solve the “dry air” issue?
By properly configuring your ventilation system – avoid excessive ventilation and use internal air recirculation.

🔥 ATREA technology:
ATREA’s systems, especially models with internal air recirculation (e.g., DUPLEX R5), help improve indoor humidity levels.
This way, you’re breathing air from the entire volume of the house, not just one room, and making full use of the unit’s performance, rather than relying on a single outlet. This minimizes the intake of dry outdoor air and supports a better indoor climate.
Say goodbye to fatigue and discomfort from poor air conditions.

“Heat recovery systems are noisy and disturb sleep.”

Modern heat recovery units operate at an acoustic pressure of just 30–40 dB(A) during standard operation.
To compare:
• A ticking watch = 20 dB(A)
• Whispering = 30 dB(A)
• A quiet library = 40 dB(A)

🔑 Key factors for quiet operation:
✅ Properly designed duct noise attenuation (e.g. silencers)
✅ Correct system sizing and installation
✅ Regular filter maintenance

🔥 ATREA technology:
ATREA units achieve exceptionally low noise levels thanks to their special casing design with integrated acoustic insulation, as well as top-tier EC fans from global manufacturers like EBM-papst and Ziehl-Abegg.

💡 Tip: Excessive noise often points to a design, installation, or maintenance issue (e.g. clogged filters) – not a flaw in the technology itself.
Is low noise a critical factor in your project? If so, we’re here to help you select the most suitable solution!

System Comparison – Which Ventilation Setup Performs Best?

From single-family homes to multi-unit buildings, ventilation solutions vary widely. But which systems truly deliver the best performance across energy, IAQ, and flexibility?
Eurovent classifies ventilation systems into types A1–B4. Here’s what stands out:
🏆 A2 – Central system with heat recovery
→ Ideal for single-family homes; low energy use, full control
🏆 B3/B4 – Decentralized units per apartment

❌ A1, B1 – Simple extract or supply only
→ Often fail to meet current IAQ and efficiency standards
Each system has trade-offs — but the top performers are clear. For your next project, don’t just “add ventilation.” Choose the right one.

Demand-Controlled Ventilation – Smarter Air Means Lower Bills

Why ventilate when no one’s home? 🏠
That simple question is the foundation of Demand-Controlled Ventilation (DCV) — systems that adapt ventilation based on actual indoor conditions like CO₂, humidity, or occupancy.
Air = Energy. Energy for air transfer and its heating or cooling. In the Eurovent 22-2 comparison (Diagram 1), systems with DCV and EC fans consume 78–90% less energy than natural ventilation. That’s up to 35 kWh/m² saved annually.

Benefits of DCV:
📉 Lower energy bills through reduced fan run-time and heat loss
📊 Better indoor air control based on real data
♻️ Reduced carbon footprint

In a world of smart buildings and data-driven decisions, DCV is no longer a “nice-to-have” — it’s an essential.🤝

On Friday, 12 December, we at ATREA s.r.o. spent the day on the ice. At the ice rink in Turnov, we played in a hockey tournament with a charitable purpose, with all proceeds donated to support the ROSA Foundation. 🏒

A total of six teams took part: Denso, Magna Exteriors Bohemia, ZF Automotive, TI Automotive, INOX Technology, and ATREA.

The tournament winner was 🥇 ZF Automotive, who delivered excellent performances and deservedly took first place. 🥈 INOX Technology finished second, and 🥉 ATREA secured third place. Magna Exteriors Bohemia placed fourth, TI Automotive came fifth, and Denso finished sixth. Next year, Denso will compete in a qualification day (4 December 2026) for a place in the elite tournament, should they decide to participate and accept the invitation.

The tournament also included individual player awards. The Best Goaltender 🥅 award went to Pavel Průšek (ZF Automotive). Filip Jarolím (Magna Exteriors Bohemia) was named the Most Valuable Player, and the Top Scorer award went to Michal Belda (ZF Automotive).

Most importantly, we collectively raised approximately €3,852, which was donated to the ROSA Foundation. Thank you to all teams, organizers, and supporters for the energy, fair play, and willingness to connect sport with meaningful help where it is truly needed. 😊

Ventilation in Renovation – An Opportunity, Not a Burden

Renovating Europe's ageing building stock is one of the continent’s biggest climate and social challenges. With 75% of buildings still energy inefficient, the EPBD now mandates that worst-performing buildings be upgraded — and ventilation with heat recovery is a key part of this process. 🗝️
But unlike new builds, renovation presents constraints: limited space, existing ductwork, tight budgets. So how do we ensure fresh air and efficiency without compromising feasibility?
🔧 Eurovent recommends smart, modular solutions:

Room-based HRV units for partial retrofits (e.g. school classrooms)
Hybrid systems that combine mechanical and passive approaches
🛠️ Renovation is a chance to not only reduce emissions, but also upgrade comfort, health, and long-term building value.

Ventilation shouldn’t be the afterthought — it’s the opportunity. 🌿
