A Museum Beneath the Waves — Alexandria, Egypt
What if Alexandria’s sunken monuments could return to the city?
Along the shores of Alexandria lie traces of a forgotten city — monuments, architectural fragments, and archaeological remains that disappeared beneath the Mediterranean over centuries.
Our proposal introduces a Museum of Sunken Heritage on the vacant land behind the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, creating a new cultural destination connected to Alexandrina bibliotheca one of the most important urban landmarks on the Corniche.
Rather than treating the museum as an isolated building, the concept extends the experience of the Corniche into the site.
The museum becomes a transition between city, sea, and history.
Visitors move through a sequence of open public spaces, landscaped paths, exhibition areas, and architectural volumes that gradually reveal the story of ancient Alexandria and its submerged heritage.
The design aims to:
• Preserve and display archaeological discoveries recovered from Alexandria’s waters.
• Create a public cultural destination directly connected to the Corniche.
• Strengthen the relationship between the **Bibliotheca Alexandrina,
