BRUTALIST OR ORGANIC?

I’m drawn to two very different worlds.

The strength of geometry. The softness of organic forms.

One is bold, structured and architectural. The other is fluid, unpredictable and almost alive.

As a ceramic artist, I find myself exploring both. Not because I want to choose a style, but because each creates a different feeling, a different energy, a different way of experiencing an object.

And perhaps that’s what fascinates me most: how form influences the way we feel.

So, tell me: which are you drawn to?

Brutalist — bold, geometric, architectural
Organic — fluid, natural, expressive

Or do you love the contrast between the two? And do you love to mix and match like me?

Piece by piece.

Separate forms. Different characters. One composition.

I build my totems by bringing shapes together until something unexpected emerges. I puzzle. I try. Start over and find a unique language. You can find your own with puzzling and reassembling.

Not decoration. Not repetition.

A search for balance, tension and meaning.

What do you like about this brutalist sculpture?

One of our totems in a brutalist style. I was wondering if I could make something without organic forms. Explore geometric forms and combine them later with organic forms. Thijs totem is part of the Forest Floor concept.
And comes with a geometric crown and root. To ask the question to use more sustainable made objects in interior design and questioning mass production vs. unique made objects. Shown

My werkprocess is building pieces and puzzling. I like to explore how everything fits together, the best sequence etc. So first I make the pieces and after they are ready I start assembling it.
This serie is my Garden of Eden. A reminder about nature. How we can reshape it and rebuild it.
When I am back in the studio I am going to develop this serie and are going to explore the wall@objects as well.
