A day on site in Limpley Stoke, Wiltshire, for our Tulip Tree Lodge project.

A key site meeting with the contractor, alongside reviewing materials and finishes with the client. Making the decisions that quietly shape how the space will feel.

We took a selection of beautiful colours from the .ellis paint palette, alongside floor samples, finishes and decorative lighting.

It’s always rewarding to see these elements coming together within the space, considering proportion, materiality and light to create a home with a real sense of place.

A quiet moment caught on camera during our recent photoshoot at Chelwood House, Sussex.

The Chelwood House project has many opportunities within the house to pause, relax and reflect, whilst enjoying the fabulous views across Ashdown Forest.

During our three days filming and photographing the house, we experienced some beautiful light and shadows sitting with a cuppa at the kitchen table, tucked into the bay window with its bespoke window seat.

For us, designing these moments into a space is as important as how the space looks. We like to create interiors that invite you to pause, relax and connect with your surroundings.

As the natural light moves through the room, it catches the texture of the timber, the softness of the window seat and linen blind and the simple forms of the tableware.

This is where interior design becomes emotive. Creating spaces that feel calm, connected to their surroundings and, ultimately, made to be lived in.

After nearly two years from concept to final completion, it was such a pleasure to return to Chelwood House and see the finished home being lived in and enjoyed by the family.

Having been part of the journey, there’s something particularly special about watching it all come together. These are a few moments from behind the lens at our recent photoshoot there.

We were very lucky with the weather. The natural light caught the spaces so wonderfully.

Thank you to Steven M Fisher Photography for capturing the spaces so beautifully.

‘An Extra Layer’

For our Sussex interior design project, we curated a collection of works selected specifically in response to the architecture, proportions, natural light and material palette of the house; whilst bringing in colour, texture and a little personality.

It was so lovely to see the art in its final setting.

The scale, the light and everything around it completely change how you experience the work.

We enjoyed capturing a few installation moments before we photograph the finished house next week.

Thank you for the collaboration The Finch Project.

Artwork pieces in position ready to go up!

This large-scale work was selected for the staircase and landing in part for the way it responds to the natural light and the quieter palette of the interior.

We’re always looking at the relationship between the artwork and the architecture. Where it sits, what it draws your eye towards and how it changes the feeling of a space.

This piece sits so well on the wall of this grand staircase.

Getting a large piece into exactly the right position.

For this Sussex house, the artwork was chosen alongside the wider interior rather than added at the end.

The perfect piece for the study of the house.

Art always forms part of the considered composition.

This piece of artwork introduces earthy reds, yellows, pinks and natural tones that compliment the dining room’s colour tones as well as its position overlooking

A sneak peak of a very special piece at the entrance hall of the property.

A quiet moment during the installation of this East Sussex home.

We designed the interiors and bespoke kitchen for a family who love to cook, gather and entertain, creating a space that feels as considered as it is practical.

We particularly loved capturing this moment in the kitchen, where the changing light moves through the space throughout the day, creating soft layers of light, shadow and warmth across the materials.

We’ve really enjoyed watching this home come together, and can’t wait to share more of the finished project soon.

A quiet moment during today’s snagging visit to our site.

The staircase at our Sussex project was a key part of the architecture of the home. A moment of transition, proportion and perspective.

Here, the staircase was choreographed in direct response to the scale of the existing double-height bay window.

By opening up and widening the staircase, and carefully replicating the original balustrade on both sides, we created a stronger architectural relationship between the two.

The result is a staircase that feels in proportion to the generous scale of the window, while also drawing the eye towards the views beyond.

At the foot of the staircase, the sightline continues through the hallway and into the breakfast room, creating a sense of connection between the spaces.

It is a relatively simple intervention, but one that changes the experience of the whole house bringing together scale, sightlines and natural light.

On site at our Islington project yesterday and it’s really starting to come together.

With completion now in sight, the latest details are making all the difference. Window dressing is up, lighting has been installed, and the spaces are taking on their finished character.

More to show as final completion takes place.

Bespoke Dressing Table — From Sketch to Design

A look behind the scenes at the early design stage of a bespoke dressing table for a client.

These hand-drawn sketches explore proportions, storage, drawer configurations and overall form before the design moves towards a refined, functional piece of furniture.

The aim is to create a dressing table that feels considered to the space while offering practical, well-organised storage. But above all bring joy to the user!

Inside the creative process

The family snug at our Notting Hill project.

Materials sourced, textures + colours balanced, feelings explored.

A snug should feel enveloping, so we’ve layered warmth and depth throughout:

— High shelving with indirect lighting, for a soft evening glow
— Upholstered wall panelling to soften sound and create softness for the eyes.
— Darker stained oak joinery, with fabric inserts to the tall doors creates softness to a naturally hard finish.
— A contemporary wide plank natural oak flooring, smoked and finished with a light lime oil to bring out the grain.
— Bi-fold timber panels to the windows for absolute blackout
— Extreme snug comfort through bespoke upholstery and cushions to the seating and day bed

Every choice here is about how the room will feel to be in — quiet, tactile, made to retreat into.

More from this project as it comes to life.
