Spring might feel like the natural time to plan a garden, but late summer gives you far more to work with.
Right now, you can see which plants have thrived, where it’s got crowded and where colour or structure disappeared too soon. By spring, much of what inspired you will have faded, and it’s surprisingly easy to forget what your garden looked like at its fullest.
So take note of a few things while you’re out enjoying it:
🌿 The gaps that need filling
🌸 The combinations you’d like to repeat
✂️ Anything that needs moving or dividing
🎨 Where you want more colour, height or structure
You don’t need a finished planting plan today. A few useful observations now will make every decision this autumn and next spring much easier.
