🍽️ Measuring for a dining-room rug? Don’t measure the table alone.

Pull each chair back to a comfortable sitting position and measure the full footprint of the table and chairs. This helps you judge a finished size that keeps the chairs supported instead of catching the rug edge when they’re moved. Check clearance to doors and nearby furniture too.

If a standard size doesn’t work for your room, message The Bollington Rug Co with the length and width you’re considering and a photo of the space. We can discuss a made-to-measure carpet rug and the edging finish you prefer.

🧹 The right vacuum head matters for a carpet rug.

For loop-pile carpet, a suction-only head is usually recommended. Rotating brushes and be**er bars can catch and lift the loops.

Cut-pile carpet can need a different approach, so check the carpet maker’s care guide before choosing the setting or attachment. It’s a simple check that can help you look after the pile.

🧵 A rug with worn edging may still have plenty of useful carpet left in it.

Renewing the edge can sometimes be an option, depending on the rug’s construction and the condition of the carpet and backing.

For a repair enquiry, include a photo of an undamaged part of the edge as well as the worn area. It helps us see the original finish and understand the look you’d like to keep. If you fancy a different look, tell us that too.

Message The Bollington Rug Co with those photos and we can discuss whether a repair or fresh edging may be suitable.

🧵 Two ways to finish a carpet rug: whipping and a taped border.

Whipping finishes the cut edge with yarn stitches. Taping folds a fabric band around the edge, creating a visible frame on the face of the rug.

If you’ve seen an edge finish you like, a photo is a useful starting point. Send it to The Bollington Rug Co when you enquire — we can help identify the look and discuss the options for your rug or runner.

♻️ A matching pair of bedside rugs is one way to give leftover carpet another use.

Plan the pair together: note the size needed on each side of the bed, then check whether both pieces will fit within the usable carpet. With a patterned piece, the direction of the design matters too.

If you’ve saved a remnant from a fitting, message The Bollington Rug Co with its overall size and your idea. We can talk through whether it’s suitable and the edging options.

A carpet rug that suited one room may feel too big in another.

Resizing and refinishing the edges can sometimes be an option. Its construction, the condition of the backing and the position of any pattern or border all need checking first.

If you’re thinking of a change, leave the rug uncut and make a note of its current size and the size you need. Send those measurements with a photo of the whole rug to The Bollington Rug Co, and we can discuss what may be possible.

📏 Planning a hallway runner? Try the size out on the floor first.

Lay out sheets of paper to mark the width and length you have in mind. Check the outline around doorways, furniture and any narrow sections, then look at it from both ends of the hall. It’s a simple way to get a feel for the proportions before any carpet is cut.

Send The Bollington Rug Co a photo of the space and your measurements, and we can discuss a made-to-measure runner with whipped edging or a taped border.

☕ Spilt a drink on your rug? Blot up the liquid with clean white kitchen roll or an absorbent cloth, working from the outside of the spill towards the centre. Press and lift gently rather than rubbing.

Before using any stain remover, check the carpet maker’s care instructions. Avoid reaching straight for washing-up liquid or a general household cleaner — the treatment needs to suit the material and the spill.

If you’re unsure, a carpet-cleaning specialist can advise on the next step. Keep your rug’s care information handy for moments like these.
