🏡 Project Update | Thruffle Way, Bar Hill

The outside of this one is finished. A two-storey rear extension in facing brick to match the original house, a fully glazed gable to the first floor, and three sets of wide glazed doors opening onto the new porcelain patio, with the paving carried round the side of the house.

Inside, the fit-out is still under way. The full build record is on the website, from strip-out and foundations through steel, brickwork and roof to where it stands today.

A useful quotation should make it clear what is included before work begins. Look for:

• a defined scope
• key allowances and exclusions
• payment stages and the construction programme

That detail makes quotations easier to compare and gives the project a clearer starting point.

Matching new work to an existing property is more than choosing a similar colour. Brick size, texture, weathering, bond, joint profile and mortar tone all affect the finished appearance. The right approach depends on the building and specification, so samples and real-site comparisons matter. Save this for your renovation or extension plans.

Good brickwork is judged in the details: consistent lines, neat joints, an appropriate brick and mortar match, and careful interfaces with the existing building. These photographs are from the Church End two-storey side extension in Little Eversden. The masonry stage included cavity brickwork and blockwork before roofing, glazing, services and internal finishes were completed. Tell us which detail you noticed first.
