We were back out in the wild last week continuing our environmental work, this time up at a site in Thirlmere owned by United Utilities. Joined by Ewen from Cumbria Woodlands and Conor from United Utilities.

United Utilities have tried to establish woodland on this hillside for years, but young trees have struggled against bracken, drought, and hungry wildlife. An earlier planting attempt failed, and trees planted again two years ago have faced similar challenges, with many becoming buried by bracken or eaten.

That’s where we came in. Our task this time was to help uncover the hidden saplings, clear the bracken from around them, and mark each one with a cane. This will make it easier to see which trees have survived and identify where new trees will need to be planted.

This winter, new trees will be planted to replace those that have been lost. Next year, the team will carry out another bracken bash, helping to give the young trees the space and light they need to grow.

With this extra care and attention, the aim is to give the trees the best possible chance of establishing a healthy woodland. As the trees grow and form a canopy, they will also help suppress the bracken, restoring a better balance to the site.

KEEN Demo Night - Tuesday 3rd November. Meet at 6 pm and we'll set off at 6:30 pm.

KEEN are bringing a full size run of their new running shoes (Seek and Roam), ranging from a UK 2.5 to a UK 14.

We'll complete a 5k route in the shoes, and then anyone who wants to purchase a pair can do so at a 20% discount in the store.

We'll have the usual 2 groups: a 5:50/km front group and a walk/run back group.

Working Class Heroes is looking for a motivated and reliable Shop Supervisor to help lead our retail store in Ulverston.

This is a hands-on role for someone who loves great customer service, has strong organisational skills, and enjoys working with premium menswear, streetwear, outdoor and lifestyle brands.

Key Responsibilities
•Delivering outstanding customer service.
•Supporting the day-to-day running of the store.
•Managing stock replenishment and merchandising.
•Opening and closing the store.
•Processing deliveries and maintaining high store standards.
•Assisting with promotions, events and product launches.

What We’re Looking For
•Previous retail experience preferred.
•A positive, proactive attitude.
•Strong communication.
•Passion for fashion, outdoor products and independent retail.
•Ability to work Saturdays as part of a rota.
•Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
