A statement in the details.

In this hallway at Royal Terrace, the sculptural chandelier by APPARATUS brings a contemporary edge to the home’s beautiful period architecture.

Its deep, dark metal finish creates a striking contrast against the soft, pale walls and intricate white plasterwork, while the subtle blue-green glass beads introduce a muted note of colour that feels both unexpected and considered.

The playful, almost architectural arrangement of slender stems and opal globes gives the piece a sense of movement, echoing the ornate ceiling details without competing with them. Against the grandeur of the traditional mouldings, its clean geometry creates a beautiful balance between old and new.

A considered lighting choice that feels like sculpture as much as illumination.

Lighting by APPARATUS, supplied by Porter & Jones Home in Dublin.

Conceived as an integral element of the interior rather than a standalone feature, this hidden kitchen celebrates the beauty of considered detailing and seamless design.

Behind elegant, vertically slatted doors lies a fully functional kitchen, concealed when not in use to preserve a sense of calm, continuity and understated sophistication.

Warm oak, clean lines and bespoke joinery come together to create a space where practicality and architectural elegance coexist effortlessly.

Because sometimes, the most impactful design statement is knowing what to conceal.

Art with character, sourced with intention. 💙

At Maria Fenlon Interiors, we love discovering emerging artists and championing creative talent. Sourcing art from places such as the National College of Art Dunlin allows us to uncover distinctive pieces with a story to tell, while supporting artists.

This striking work by shanemileyart caught our eye for its beautiful depth of colour, with rich cobalt tones creating a captivating focal point against the warm, understated palette of the interior.

We believe art should be more than the finishing touch. It should bring personality, spark conversation and give a space its own identity.

A celebration of colour, creativity and emerging talent.

Not every room needs to be designed around the television.

For this project, we wanted the fireplace to remain the focal point of the room, so we designed a bespoke TV cabinet that feels beautifully integrated rather than competing for attention.

The cabinetry was carefully proportioned around the fireplace, with clean-lined doors, subtle detailing and a refined material palette creating a calm, cohesive backdrop. The television is discreetly housed within the joinery, allowing it to visually recede when not in use.

From the proportions to the choice of finishes and tactile materiality, every detail was considered to make the piece feel architectural and purposeful — balancing function with the character of the room.

A bespoke solution where design hierarchy, materiality and function work seamlessly together — keeping the fireplace firmly centre stage.

We’re delighted to share that our Ballard Victorian project has been shortlisted in the Fit Out Awards:

🏆 Fit Out Project of the Year – Residential Over €500K

A huge honour to see this project recognised among some of the industry’s finest. It was wonderful to bring this period property to life, combining considered design, bespoke detailing and a timeless, contemporary approach to create a truly characterful home.

We’re incredibly proud of the team and everyone involved in transformation of the building and interiors. 🤍

Fingers crossed for the awards! ✨

What a privilege it was to be invited to be part of Design Week Dublin — a week filled with inspiring conversations, wonderful people and a real celebration of the design community in Dublin.

From the opening ceremony at the stunning home of LyonsKelly Architecture+Design it was all about meeting fellow designers, listening to inspirational conversations and coming together as a creative community.

It was particularly enjoyable to meet so many talented young, upcoming designers at the round-table talks — sharing ideas, experiences and a few tips along the way.

The week continued with a fascinating panel discussion on the importance of art within considered interiors, hosted by the lovely Deirdre / Dee Coleman at the Gerard Byrne Gallery, alongside art specialists James O’Halloran and Helena Hart. This was especially enjoyable for me, as art within interiors is a subject very close to my heart.

Then on to the DWD drinks Minima celebrating their 30-year anniversary and the centenary of Eileen Gray’s iconic Bibendum chair.

I also loved the opportunity to explore craftsmanship, heritage and provenance in conversation at Magee 1866 with Tom Faulkner

And finally, we wrapped up the week with an inspiring design talk with architects O'Donnell + Tuomey

A week that was exciting, hectic, thought-provoking and hugely inspirational all at once.
A heartfelt thank you to the inimitable sisters Sarah & Jane McDonnell, whose vision brought us all together and created such a wonderful celebration of design in Dublin.

Finally, an additional mention to the official lead partner of the event, Range Rover, as well as all the many businesses who supported the event through their sponsorship. Without their support, this wonderful week would not have been possible.

Art has the power to transform a space.

For me, it is never simply the finishing touch to an interior. The right piece of art can change the atmosphere of a room, create a sense of connection and individuality, and bring together architecture, materials, colour and light in a way that nothing else can.

I’m delighted to be part of Design Week Dublin this September for The Importance of Art in Designed Spaces, a conversation exploring exactly this relationship between art and interiors.

Hosted at the wonderful Gerard Byrne Gallery, I’ll be joined by James O’Halloran, art specialist and Director at Adam’s Auctioneers, and Helena Hart, property expert and History of Art graduate, with the conversation moderated by Deirdre Coleman, interior designer and presenter of RTÉ’s Home Rescue: The Big Fix.

With such different perspectives across art, interiors and property, I’m looking forward to exploring how original and handmade work can add depth, character and emotion to a considered space — and why art should be thought about from the very beginning of the design process, rather than simply added at the end.

As someone with a background in Fine Art Sculpture, I’ve always believed that art and design are intrinsically connected. A beautiful interior should have a story, and art is often at the heart of that story.

A quiet moment of considered design 🤍

For the guest bedroom within our latest project, every detail has been chosen to create a sense of warmth, softness and understated luxury.

The bed is layered with a throw from our The Art of Bed Dressing collection adding texture and a subtle tonal contrast to the natural upholstery. Beside it, the wall light has been carefully selected for its sculptural form and slender profile — designed to complement the curves and proportions of the bespoke bed head rather than compete with it.

A simple combination of tactile fabrics, warm timber and beautifully considered lighting creates a calm and inviting space.

A landing should be more than a space you simply pass through.

Here, an antique occasional table and sculptural wall light create a quiet moment of pause, while Marta Romashina’s evocative portrait becomes the focal point—drawing the eye and adding depth, character and a sense of narrative to the transition between rooms.

Thoughtfully chosen artwork has the power to transform even the smallest spaces, bringing warmth, personality and a layer of storytelling that makes a house feel truly lived in.
