Spring Starts Here: Cute, weird and hungry. 🌱🪰 Carnivorous plants are available in PlantHouse Grey Lynn!
Top 5 ways to keep your tiny predators happy:
☀️ Lots of light They love a bright spot and many enjoy some direct sun (windowsill or patio)
💧 Keep them wet… Unlike most houseplants, they generally like consistently moist soil and can sit in a shallow saucer of water. They evolved in bogs and wetlands.
🌧️ Rainwater is best Carnivorous plants evolved in very nutrient-poor environments and can be sensitive to the dissolved minerals and salts in tap water. Collect rainwater where possible, or use distilled/demineralised water
🪴 Skip the fertiliser Their roots are adapted to nutrient-poor soils. Regular plant fertiliser and standard potting mix can actually damage or kill them. They get their nutrients from the insects they catch instead, it’s why they evolved to be carnivorous.
🪰 Don’t force-feed them They’re surprisingly capable hunters and hyper efficient at utilising the nutrients. Let them do their thing
