A guide to working with upholstery leather 🛋️
Unlike fabric, upholstery leather isn’t sold by the linear metre. It comes in naturally shaped hides, is priced per square foot (sq ft) or square metre (m²), and is sold by the whole hide.
Before you cut:
✅ Check the hide’s shape, grain and natural markings.
✅ Lay out all your templates, including seam allowances.
✅ Check that your largest panels fit.
✅ Allow for cutting waste—total hide area isn’t the same as usable panel area.
