For me, it’s all about the plants 🌿

I wanted to wait until the planting had developed a little more to truly showcase this unique design and build we’ve just completed in Matapouri, but here’s a sneak peek at this very special project and where it started.

A big thank you to Mike at Better Projects for bringing my very loose “I want it to look like this” pergola design to life! And to all the companies and contractors who helped make this project come together.

I’m looking forward to watching it grow and continuing to develop the garden over the coming years 🌱

Texture. Structure. Movement.

A garden shouldn’t peak in year one.
It should deepen.

Layered planting allows space to feel immersive, architectural and alive — while remaining intentional and composed.

Every species is chosen for how it behaves over time.
How it ages.
How it supports the layer beneath it.

This is planting design as long-term investment.

If you’re building or renovating and want the landscape to hold equal weight to the architecture — let’s talk.

At Pakiri, the landscape leads — we follow.

This planting scheme was designed to echo the surrounding coastal environment:
• wind-tolerant grasses
• soft movement
• restrained structure
• plants chosen for longevity, not trends

When planting responds to its setting, it settles in naturally — visually and ecologically.

This is how we approach all our work:
🌿 planting with intention
🌊 designing for place
🏡 gardens that feel grounded, calm, and timeless
