Busy morning today doing a gutter clean for a lovely client :)

Keeping your gutters clean helps prevent water overflowing, dampness, mould and costly damage to your home.

I have seen this article on the paper this morning and am astounded at the governments response (or am I šŸ™„).

Cold, mouldy homes are not our only issue with healthy homes. I see hundreds of these box-like developments popping up all over the place. Two or three story homes, no eaves, painted black, large areas of glazing, and no ventilation.

Living in a sweltering home presents its own problems to our health, and overall livability of a home. Why are developers still building homes like this? It makes no sense to me!

Do you live in a home that over heats? What are your simple solutions for the problem?

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/community/1619940/no-regulations-on-too-hot-homes-likely-until-2031?fbclid=IwVERDUAUnlnRleHRuA2FlbQIxMABwZG9mBXNydGMGYXBwX2lkDDM1MDY4NTUzMTcyOAABHnW2ujz5TE4PJiHskoU5cpcBXfzK-OCUvULBBIsFqRlBfTIjfOZUTeIOnbaR_aem_jf9pD0ZjMndS7PAexEcx5w

Advocates for people living in overheating new builds are dismayed that officials will not consider comprehensive changes to fix the issue until 2031.

I was interviewed on the radio again today about my petition to the Government to change the rules around Healthy Homes compliance, so landlords can no longer self-certify.

If you haven't already, please sign and share my petition. I'm not on a witch hunt for landlords, just the bad ones. Nothing changes for landlords who are already following the rules and giving their tenants a warm, dry home to live in.

A warm, dry home is a basic human right. Too many people in NZ are suffering serious health issues because of the home they live in.

I have been busy over the past couple of weeks helping a client to prepare their house for some new tenants. I have cleaned up the garden and path, removed a couple of small trees, and a general tidy up of the exterior of the house.

Give me a call if you need help to prepare your house for tenants, or if you just need a hand to get things under control again :D

Just wrapped up a project for one of our lovely clients. Their curtains needed some TLC, so we removed them, replaced the rails, gave the curtains a good wash and air, and reinstalled everything with care.

While we were there, we also draught‑stopped around all the windows to help keep their home warmer and more comfortable for their new tentants.

It’s amazing what a refresh can do for a space, and we’re always happy to help make homes feel their best.

My Healthy Homes petition is now also up on ActionStation!

I know many of you have already signed my Parliamentary petition, and honestly, thank you SO much for your support, I have 400 signatures so far, but need so many more. ā¤ļø

If you've already signed the Parliamentary petition, please don't sign again. We don't want to artificially inflate the numbers with duplicate signatures (although any duplicates will be identified and removed at the end).

But if you haven't signed yet, this is another opportunity to add your voice and support the call for:

šŸ Independent Healthy Homes certification for rental properties
šŸ”Regular compliance audits
āœ”ļøGreater confidence that a home claimed to be Healthy Homes compliant actually meets the required standards

Healthy Homes compliance shouldn't simply be a box that gets ticked once and forgotten about.

If you haven't already signed the Parliamentary petition, please consider signing and sharing this ActionStation version:

Please sign, share and tag someone who cares about better housing in Aotearoa.

In New Zealand, too many people live in cold, damp and mouldy rental homes despite the Healthy Homes Standards. Poor housing affects health, education, employment and wellbeing, while also placing avoidable costs on families and the wider health system. A healthy home should not depend on how confid...

Is your home draughty or hard to keep warm?

We often think about insulation when we’re trying to make a home warmer, but there’s no point trapping all that heat if it’s only going to escape through gaps around doors, windows and other openings.

The simple rule of thumb is if you can fit a $2 coin through a gap, it needs draught stopping.

Draught stopping is one of those small jobs that can make a surprisingly big difference. Sealing up gaps helps keep the warm air in and the cold air out, making your home more comfortable and your heating to work more effectively.

And the good news that is not complicated or expensive ā˜ŗļø

At thrivekind we can help identify where those draughts are coming from and get them sorted. Sometimes the solution to a big problem is actually pretty simple.

I have been working on some interesting projects lately. I had a lovely view earlier this week doing some draught stopping on a gorgeous day.

I'm looking forward to sharing more photos of the work I have been doing over the past few weeks. Standby!

Draught stopping is a really simple way to help with heat retention, it is cost effective way to save money on your power bills. Rule of thumb is anything that you can fit a $2 coin into, needs draught stopping.

Yesterday I was on the radio talking about rental homes, property management and Healthy Homes Standards.

There’s bigger conversations happening about the standard of rental properties in New Zealand and I think it’s one we need to keep having until changes are made.

As someone who works directly with homes and tenants, I see the impact from bad landlords and Property Managers.

Yet we still rely on landlords self declaring compliance with the Healthy Homes Standards, with no independent checking. Alongside this, property management is not a regulated industry, and we are seeing too many situations where property managers lack the knowledge and training needed to do their jobs effectively. Some are not adequately informed about their responsibilities under the RTA and may not even have the knowledge required to identify whether a property meets the Healthy Homes Standards (which I thought would be the bare minimum for a Property Manager!).

I’d love your support. ā¤ļø

šŸŽ§ Listen to my radio interview and read the article here: https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/business/1120121/worst-property-managers-named-and-shamed-in-new-report

āœļø And if you agree that rental homes should be independently checked, please sign my petition: https://petitions.parliament.nz/6690cd1c-e80f-4a5e-6aed-08debff4e43f?lang=en

Big players like Bayleys and Quinovic are named in a new report as the property managers with the mouldiest, coldest and dampest homes.
