COPIED FROM OTHER GROUP
*The 8 to 11 Brigade*
The discerning among you may have noticed a curious phenomenon. Every morning, roughly between 8 and 11 AM, every WhatsApp group of retired personnel suddenly springs to life. Messages fly thicker than artillery shells. Good mornings, opinions, breaking news, jokes, military analysis, political solutions, health advice, investment tips, cricket selection, recipes... nothing is spared.
After months of deep research, I believe I have discovered the cause of this unique phenomenon - This, is precisely the time when the maids arrive in every household.
The wives immediately become occupied supervising the maids and issuing rapid-fire instructions. The retired husband, whose greatest contribution at that moment is getting in everyone's way, is tactfully but firmly relocated to the verandah, balcony, garden or some remote obscure corner of the house. Unspoken instructions to him are clear, "Stay out of the way and don't interfere."
Thus begins the daily deployment of the Retired WhatsApp Warrior. Armed with a smartphone, reading glasses and unlimited confidence, he proceeds to solve the nation's problems before breakfast. Every topic demands his expert opinion, whether it is geopolitics, artificial intelligence, stock markets, climate change, military strategy, cricket, nutrition or the mating habits of penguins. Expertise is entirely optional; confidence is compulsory.
Some warriors conduct long one-to-one conversations inside a group, blissfully unaware that another 200 members are unwilling spectators. Others forward messages with breathtaking speed. Verification is considered an unnecessary peacetime luxury. If it begins with "Received from a very reliable source..." it must obviously be true.
There is also the distinguished Good Morning Regiment, convinced that no sunrise is official until accompanied by flowers, waterfalls, puppies, glittering roses and at least three folded hands emojis. And heaven help the group if someone posts a controversial topic. Within minutes the retired fraternity transform into constitutional experts, economists, diplomats and strategic thinkers.
Then, almost magically, around 11 AM, silence descends. The maid has left. The wives have found fresh employment for the warriors, buy vegetables, pay the electricity bill, fix the leaking tap, accompany them to the market or locate that one missing container lid. The morning offensive is concluded and battlefield is abandoned until the doorbell rings next morning. Domestic duties always take precedence over WhatsApp operations.
Warning: If you're reading this between 8 and 11, you're probably in your designated holding area. Just don't let your wife catch you smiling - she'll find you another job.😃
