Another positive post about Shelby. Shelby is here for fear aggression towards other dogs. We have worked very hard at teaching her confidence and trust as well as building a more positive association with other dogs. She is starting her third week and I am now allowing her some freedom of choice (with needed guidance if necessary). Shelby made a great choice here! Good girl, Shelby. It makes us so happy to see you succeed!

Thank you, Brian Jambora and Eddie for your help today.

We still have one spot left for our June board and train program if you are interested. Contact Lynn at 612-747-4090 for more info!

Shelby, our dog reactive dog got to practice her new skills this weekend as well at the seminar. Here she is walking around a few very intense working dogs, one who was off leash and she was great! Good girl, Shelby. So happy to see you so calm.

Charlie is doing great! This weekend we went on a field trip to a seminar Kevin was doing and we got to practice his new skills. Here is Charlie doing a wonderful long down stay with the big distraction of a working dog on the field and a crowd of people. He is such a good boy!!!

Sunday Funday!!!

Charlie is having a blast here and knocking my socks off with all we have accomplished in our first week together. Got to love dogs like this—brains, looks, personality and tons of drive! Today I brought him out for his play session and he said “Let’s work!” and came to heel and walked with me perfectly out to the play area. He continued to offer me behaviors through out our play time. This boy is truly one of the funnest dogs I’ve trained in a long time. 😊

We have openings for our board and train program starting mid-May. Feel free to contact Lynn at [email protected] or 612-747-4090 if you want to learn more.

Well, we just got the news that the Stay At Home order just got extended through May 10th. While we feel this is the best thing for our community, we also know that this has left a lot of you hanging halfway through a class or in the middle of a home training package. We will be contacting those of you who in the middle of packages to discuss options to make sure we can meet your needs as best a possible.

As far as classes go, we will pick up as soon as we are able. By the looks of the current order, we won't be able to resume classes until phase two goes into affect. Because this may mean late May or early June, I want to offer anyone who was in classes affect by this 1/2 price on your next class in addition to finishing out your current class that was affected.

Thank you for your continued support during these trying times. We are looking forward to putting this behind us and getting back to serving you and your pups as soon as we can!

I encourage everyone to give it a try! You can do it remotely and send me videos. For all K9 Foundation clients, I will waive the evaluation fee if you want to try.. It is easy and fun! All you need to do is video each trick and send it to me on messager or Whatsapp.

We have been busy, busy, BUSY getting our facility looking awesome and ready for our new classes. New flooring went in today and it looks FANTASTIC! The only thing we are missing is YOU and your PUP. Once we have the go ahead from our governor, we will back up and running. 😁🐶

Can’t wait to see you all again soon!

Taz loving all this extra time I have for walks! Here is a fitness challenge for you and your dog! This week see if you can get 10 miles of walking or running with your dogs between now and next Friday. The exercise has the added bonus of releasing serotonin which is a feel good hormone—something we all can use a little bit more of right now.

Have fun!

Got to love it when we get updates like this:

“We are practicing a lot. Passed a couple of dogs yesterday and he had no reaction.....
A little fluffy puddle passed us today. J was calm and quiet and only once “fluffy” passed us did J whimper. So cute.”

(J’s owner contacted me for help with leash aggression. Looks like J is doing FANTASTIC!!!!).

A special post for our new puppy clients. I know it can seem like your pup won't get much socialization right now with all this social distancing, but there is still a TON you can do to get your pup on the path to success!

Do a ton of environmental socialization! Walk on weird surfaces, go to the play ground and play on the equipment, set up an obstacle course with tarps to run over and under using boxes and broom handles to make tunnels and jumps. Play food search by scattering their food in a kiddie pool full of bottles so they learn to use their nose and get used to weird things touching them and slippery footing. Find some wire or wooden stairs to walk on. The possibilities are endless!

Passive, non-interactive socialization is still socialization! In fact, I think it is often BETTER socialization than interactive socialization as it teaches your pup to be calm and relaxed around these things. Walk around your neighborhood and wave from afar at your neighbors. Have you pup watch the kids ride by on their bikes or skateboards. Walk past the yard with dogs. The more your pup sees at this age, the more comfortable they will be!

Another very important thing you must be mindful of with puppies during this new normal is to make sure you work to prevent them from becoming overly dependent on you while you are home much more than normal. Have them spend some alone time in their crate in another room with a favorite chew toy while you do office work or make dinner. Do this a few times a day so that once you transition back to real life of leaving for work, it won't be so jarring to the pup. Practice ignoring them sometime instead attending to their every need.

Finally, balance out your pups day with plenty of fun training mixed with play and exercise. All this extra time can be a blessing.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions about your pup or dog right now. I can set up a Facetime or Skype session if you would like a training session or can answer a quick question or two via phone or email. We look forward to seeing you next month for classes, seminars and one-on-one sessions!

Hope everyone is staying safe, sane and most importantly--healthy! While we are sure excited to get back to work, we know that right now, the health of our community is the most important thing. We want to challenge you this upcoming week to teaching your dog ONE new thing! It can be something useful or something silly! I am going to see if I can teach Sacha to circle my legs backwards (she already does it forwards). Post your progress here. We are excited to see what you come up with!

A note to our present and future clients regarding our operations during the COVID-19 outbreak:

Updated 3-27-20

Because we are considered a non-essential service, we will be complying with the current directives to suspend all in person classes, private sessions and evaluations from Tuesday, March 31st thru April 29th or until the governor declares that non-essential businesses can resume services. I hope you understand that we are making this choice as the safety of our community and especially our dear clients, is our top priority.

We are happy to offer private sessions via Facetime or Skype for new and current clients if you are interested. You can call Lynn at 612-747-4090 to learn more. We will also be posting daily fun ways to keep your pup busy and training tips HERE on our page so please check that out!

Until then, please stay home, stay safe and cuddle your pups!

Good morning! I hope everyone is adjusting to our new, temporary normal. We at K9 Foundation want to update everyone on our current options. We will be finishing our our current class schedule that is in progress as they are small classes, our space is about 2000sq. ft. and social distancing will be easy when handling a dog. When possible, we will hold classes outdoors to further decrease any risks. Future classes will be tentative for now.

All commonly used spaces will be disinfected frequently and the bathroom will be stocked with soap and paper towel for hand washing.

We will continue to work privately with clients in their homes and will maintain good hygienic practices to ensure a low risk. Please allow us to wash our hands upon arrival and at exit. We can also work remotely with you via FaceTime or Skype if you prefer. We ask anyone who may have any signs of illness to please stay home or reschedule when you are feeling better to ensure we all stay healthy. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know!

Now go enjoy some extra time with your dog!

Congratulations are in order for Kevin and his dog, Extra. Today they got their Mondioring level 3 title down at Lone Star Mondioring Club in Texas. Extra had a little to much fun, so it was close but he got it and ended up in first place. Good boy Extra and good job, Kevin Bain. The trial theme was Happy Birthday!

Dog Politics: Understanding Dog-Dog Tolerance Levels

We LOVE this video that BadRap made about normal dog social behavior. If you think about it, we are similar in our social development. We love to play with anyone as kids but as we mature, we get a bit more choosy about who we interact with socially. Once we are adults we become selective about our social circle. This video helps people understand why a puppy who loved all dogs is suddenly not getting along all dogs. There is nothing wrong with your dog at all! It is normal for an adult to not want to play with random dogs. It is, however, important to have our dogs be able to be neutral around other dogs while passing each other on the street or to be able to share a patio together calmly. We can help you with that if you need to tune up your dogs skills around others or any other dog training goal. Call Lynn at 612-747-4090 to set something up.

WOW! I couldn’t stop saying wow today at our second appointment with Heidi and Zeke. Last appointment they rushed the door, jumped, barked and made it hard for me to enter. One week of place training and I was able to come in while they stayed calmly on their beds. Great job!!!!! Remarkable what training can do! 👍🏻😁

If you would like to schedule a training package to tackle any goal you may have, please give me a call at 612-747-4090 so we can get you started.

Cody’s goes home in a few days. This boy was WIDE OPEN when we started and really, really struggled with anything impulse control. This last week has been so rewarding as we have seen everything come together and he has turned out to be a lovely dog now that he has manners. Going to miss this little fuzzy rocket! ❤️

We have an opening in April for our 4 or 6 week board and train program. Your dog lives with us as part of our family while they learn. We can customize things if you have specific needs or you can choose our Mannerly Dog program. If you are interested in learning more or booking, give Lynn a call at 612-747-4090.

What are you doing on this cold rainy day? Cody and Lynn are relaxing and watching movies. Cody struggled to be calm the first couple of days here (this 8 month old boy loves to par-tay!!!) but with lots of shaping and relaxation exercises, he has learned quickly how to relax in the house and is being quiet and well behaved. This is not just nice for the humans but learning how to relax will help Cody in so many ways.

We have a fun class coming up for dogs who need help learning how to calm down and improve their impulse control called “Control Yourself!” Check it out at K9foundation.net.

Let’s talk attitude. What is your dogs attitude when you train? Is he happy and engaged or is he checking out and ignoring you or worse—is he stressed or fearful? How about YOUR attitude when training. Are you having fun and enjoying your dog or do you see it as a chore?

Attitude makes a HUGE difference on whether or not you train your dog and whether your dog learns the aimed behaviors.

Different things can help improve your training session attitude. Do short, fun sessions. Teach with LOTS of rewards and break up your sessions with play. End on a positive note leaving you dog wanting more. Allow your dog the freedom to participate rather than regurgitate. A proactive dog is so much better than a reactive dog when it come to making it enjoyable.

Our goal at K9 Foundation is to teach you how to train, but more importantly how to make it so you and your dog LOVE to train.

Lynn can you please let me know when you will have one of the obedience misfit class (the one you mentioned today) so I can register Dice and Tilda. By the way You Are Awesome!!
My dog recently died and my home is such a lonely place. If anyone knows of a gentle adult 4 legged guy or guy needing a loving home please let me know.
Lynn is a fun and encouraging trainer who patiently worked with me, my child with special needs and our high drive rescue dog who has a big personality. Her practical guidance has been tremendously helpful for me in better understanding how to communicate with our dog. My child now uses basic signs with our dog, which the dog understands and responds to. I’ve recommended Lynn to others and suggest you try her service, too.
