A friendly reminder and warning for those of you with kids and dogs - It is September and the start of football season, but it is also the time of year when copperheads are born.
The baby snakes are born with venom and ready to defend themselves. The mama snake generally gives birth to about 8 - 10 of these critters, so if you find one there are others around. The babies will keep those greenish/yellow tips on their tails for about a year. These snakes are not generally aggressive but will bite if you are unfortunate enough to touch or step on one. Do not reach under bushes, around rocks, or even flower pots without looking first. They like damp places so beware, even under children's toys and dog dishes!

Female copperheads give birth during the late summer or early fall. Young copperheads look exactly like adults, except they have a yellow-tipped tail. Their coloring and pattern help them blend in to natural areas, so be sure to watch your step when in the woods or on nature trails.

On this day... 19 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning tomorrow. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00 am Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.

When you fail to secure your home from wildlife and rodents it’s not long and these guys start utilizing your home as a food source.
They will feed off mice, bats, young squirrels, etc. all of which can be prevented from entering your property and living in your attics, crawl spaces, and walls.

I get asked all the time, what is the weirdest thing you’ve ever got out of someone’s chimney. When I mention snakes, frogs, birds etc. no one seems to give those a second thought. When I mention a duck people are often taken by suprise that ducks actually do enter chimneys and get stuck. I’ve got several ducks out of chimneys over the years but this one tops them all.

Justin was on a call today and sends me this picture of a banded wood duck that had found her way into a chimney and was trapped behind the damper.

He sent the information in and was able to obtain the data on this banded wood duck.
Based on the report she wasn’t quite a year old and obviously hadn’t traveled very far.

I am sharing a photo from a personal friend of mine who was battling a clogged dryer vent. This was from a rental property in a rather large multi-dwelling complex locally. (20+ units in one building) In other words, if his dryer caught fire and you lived in that building, it very well could be “your” fire as well. 👎🏻

We see it everyday, bird nest in vents, dryers overheating, water heaters not venting properly, etc.

We don’t have a “sales department ”, we provide real data and solutions to prevent your property from becoming a statistic. Below you’ll find some data from the National Fire Prevention Association. www.nfpa.org

“Between 2010-2014, U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated 15,970 home fires involving clothes dryers or washing machines each year. These fires resulted in annual losses estimated at 13 deaths, 440 injuries, and $238 million in property damage.
Facts and figures

“Clothes dryers accounted for 92% of the fires; washing machines 4%, and washer and dryer combinations accounted for 5%.

The leading factor contributing to the ignition of home fires involving clothes dryers was failure to clean, accounting for one-third (33%) of dryer fires.

A mechanical or electrical failure or malfunction was involved in the vast majority of home fires involving washing machines.

Fires involving clothes dryers usually started with the ignition of something that was being dried or was a byproduct (such as lint) of drying, while washing machine fires usually involved the ignition of some part of the appliance. “

While we are all faced with Covid19 and the changes to our daily lives that it has caused, it’s imperative to not overlook some potential hazards in and around your home.

That chimney you “never use”, it could be venting your water heater or gas furnace and if obstructed could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.

The dryer that is taking forever to dry your clothes could be clogged putting your family and property at REAL risk for a fire. This time of year animals and birds love to nest in dryer vents.

That noise in the attic, it could be a family of squirrels that has chewed electrical wiring, again, setting up a perfect scenario for a house fire.

These are just a few examples of that we run into daily. Give us a call today!

Ooooh that smell.....can’t you smell that smell?

Squirrels frequently find their way into places and can’t get out. Unfortunately our home is
often the place. This squirrel here found his/her way down a chimney only to find the way in wasn’t as easy as the way out. Customer returned from a 2 week vacation trip to a smell that they couldn’t stand.
Our video inspection helped identify exactly where the odor was coming from.

This is PREVENTABLE. Give us a call
