Would you be willing to help a disabled family who is being forced to move after seven years at the current location? Our family consists of three adults; two of those adults are disabled, and three children and one of those children is disabled as well. We have two dogs, a lab that is six years old and a chihuahua that is 16 years old, and they are both housebroken and trained.
Each disabled individual's combined monthly income is $2,500 in social security disability supplements. The household also has $700 in food assistance. Within the next few months, we will also have an extra income by becoming a caregiver for our roommate.
We moved from California about nine years ago to Anthony, Kansas, and have resided in our current location for seven years now. Since 2022, our landlord has been dangling us month to month. We moved into our house in 2017 and have had a contract every year until 2022; in which we have been enquiring each month for a contract and have yet to receive an answer. Throughout all these years, we have always been on time with rent. On April 8th, we received a non-certified letter stating that we had until the end of May to find a new place to live.
I am the father, and I am in a wheelchair and am unable to use my arms and hands. My son is autistic and has finally become comfortable with going to school. He is nine, so you can imagine the struggles there. My two daughters are being ripped from the only secure home they have ever known. Our roommate is disabled as well, can barely walk, and is going through Alzheimer's. Finally, there is my wife, who must take care of us all, and due to the care, I need, as well as our son and roommate, she cannot go out to work. My wife is coming off the waiting list to become a caregiver, and she will soon be getting the job of caregiving for our roommate.
My family needs help, please; we are good people. I also have my income tax from my construction LLC business, which I have opened and have been building for three years. I am a licensed contractor and have been serving Harper County since 2021. We have put our roots here, and I know this to be true because the community has come together to help us in any way they can. I would love to stay in this county for my kid's sake, but we need help.
We need a three-to-four-bedroom house with a walk-in shower, garage, and fenced-in yard.
