This is the truth about your drinking water

You can't see it, smell it, or taste it. That's what makes arsenic in tap water so sneaky.

If you're on a private well, no federal agency is testing your water for you. Roughly 2 million Americans are drinking well water with arsenic above the EPA's safety threshold, and long-term exposure is linked to skin, bladder, and lung cancer.

New research found that younger U.S. veterans are carrying higher levels of PFAS, the "forever chemicals" linked to firefighting foam and other military exposures. Veterans ages 20 to 39 had up to 24% higher levels than non-veterans, and nearly 6 in 10 veterans overall were above the threshold where doctors may recommend follow up care.

The study can't pinpoint exactly where the exposure came from, and it doesn't prove drinking water is the cause. What it does show is how widespread PFAS exposure really is, especially for people with occupational risk.

If you're concerned about PFAS in your own water, testing is the place to start. Filtration can reduce PFAS going forward, but it can't undo exposure that's already happened.
