Back in 2024, I got a call from a designer about a home he was designing for a client on Lake Lanier. It was a substantial project, and he needed a workroom that could handle everything it would take to get the window treatments right. Fabrication was only part of it. He needed someone who could think through the complexities with him, keep track of the details, and take some of the work and worry off his plate.

That designer was Brian Cash of Brian Cash Works. Based in New York City, he was working with local builder MAK+KAM to create a beautiful lakeside home for his clients. He knew how he wanted the rooms to look and feel. What he needed here was a workroom he could count on to help make that happen, even when he couldn’t be onsite.

Over almost a year, we helped carry that work from early planning through installation and finishing touches. Now that the home has been featured in Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, I’m excited to share our part of the story on the blog.

I learned from women who poured everything into what they made, and I try to do the same for every client who trusts me with their home.

This is National Women's Small Business Month, and I'm proud to celebrate it alongside so many of you. Some of the most talented designers I partner with run their own women-owned firms, and many of our clients have built businesses of their own. When we work together, it's one woman who loves her craft helping another bring her vision to life, and I love being part of that.

I hope you'll join me this month in supporting the women-owned businesses in your own community.

When you live this high up the mountain, the view becomes part of the house. ✨

Our client wanted to enjoy every bit of it, and she also wanted privacy whenever she chose. We handled that with motorized roller shades mounted just below the arches. In this photo, they're rolled up and nearly invisible. Can you find them? They blend right into the trim, so they never distract from the design or the view, and they lower over the doors with the touch of a button.

She also wanted the windows framed all the way to the top, arch and all. To get the drapery up there, we templated each arch right on the wall and used those templates to create curved hardware made for these two windows alone. The rod follows the trim from end to end, so the drapery and the architecture read as one shape.

Now she has her view and her privacy, and the room feels finished from floor to ceiling.

Think about how often you'll open and close your drapery. For most people, it's every single day.

That's why the hardware matters as much as the fabric. These pleated panels hang on a traversing rod, which means they glide along a track instead of sliding ring by ring across a pole. You pull a wand and the panels move together, stacking neatly at the sides with the pleats intact.

Over time, that makes a real difference. The fabric stays cleaner because you aren't handling it, the pleats hold their shape, and the drapery looks the way it did on install day for years to come.

Two stories of drapery look a little different when you're standing above them.

With a corner of windows this size, the view is the point. Michelle Payne knew covering any of that glass would have worked against the room. What it needed was softness at the edges, something to frame the corner and keep all that height and glass from feeling cold.

These panels hang the full two stories on either side of the corner and stay put, so the windows stay open and the room gets the warmth of fabric from top to bottom. Standing in the loft and looking down, you can see how they tie the two levels together.

And we're not done in this house yet. We're back this month for the room next door, with the same soaring height. Stay tuned.

Building or renovating a home in Atlanta with tall windows? Save this one for later.

Early in my career, nearly every shade and blind that left my workroom had a cord on it. That was how window treatments worked, and I made a lot of them.

Every October, Window Covering Safety Month reminds me how far we've come. We stopped making corded shades and draperies several years ago. Now, cordless lift systems keep dangling loops away from little hands and curious pets. Motorization and automation go a step further by letting you raise every shade in the room from your phone, or on a schedule you set once and never think about again.

The right choice depends on how you live. A nursery needs a different answer than a two-story great room you can't reach without a ladder. After this many years, I know which questions to ask before I recommend anything, and I always listen first.

If you still have corded treatments at home, let October be your reminder that it's time to update. I'm here when you're ready.

The room already had something to say.

Repeated arches. Strong wood beams. Expanses of glass. This wasn’t a space that needed the window treatments competing for attention.

So we kept them quiet.

Soft, flowing ripplefold runs wall to wall and floor to ceiling, allowing the architecture to remain the focus.

Because sometimes good window treatment design isn’t about what you add.

It’s knowing when to hold back.

The boardroom sets the tone before anyone says a word.

Acoustic softness, light control, and a design that communicates intention... Custom drapery in a commercial space does more work than most people realize. This boardroom at No18 at The Shops Buckhead Atlanta is proof that the details matter just as much at the conference table as they do at home.

If you're planning a commercial space and want fabrication that performs as beautifully as it looks, we'd love to talk.

When drapery changes the way a room feels. 🤍

Floor to ceiling. Wall to wall. Softness, movement, and rhythm that become part of the room itself.

It looks effortless.

That’s the point.

Because with a treatment this simple, there’s nowhere for bad fabrication to hide. Every fold, every length, every detail has to work together.

When it does, you don’t see the work.

You just see the room the way it was meant to be.

The details are never just details.
