Ice storms can arrive quickly, and always seem to take us by surprise. A little prep ahead of time can help protect your home and keep your family safe and sound.
Before the storm:
- Charge phones, power banks, and backup batteries
- Stock essentials like water, non-perishable food, medications, and pet supplies
- Set your thermostat a few degrees higher in case of power loss
- Cover outside faucets and disconnect hoses to prevent frozen pipes
- Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate and leave a slow drip to help prevent frozen lines.
- Park vehicles away from trees and power lines
- Bring in or secure outdoor items
During the storm:
- Use flashlights instead of candles.
- Avoid traveling
- When safe to do so, check on neighbors, especially seniors or anyone living alone
Stay warm, stay safe, and take care of each other!
