As a follow-up to July's program: "The Historical Journey of American Gardens", BGC members took a guided tour of 1794 Dill's Tavern in Dillsburg. Today the tavern and surrounding outbuildings not only tell the story of the families who lived in, and operated businesses on the property, but also the story of life on the Pennsylvania frontier. If you have never been to Dill's Tavern, consider taking a tour or attending one of the many programs or events they sponsor throughout the year!

BGC warmly welcomed the 2026 student scholarship winners during this month's meeting. The Club has been awarding scholarships to deserving Adams County students since 1976. This year three $1500 scholarships were awarded. Pictured left to right: Kayden Welsh (Littlestown HS) attending Lycoming College, Brayden Billman (New Oxford HS) attending Cornell University, Chris Stoken (BGC Scholarship Chair), and Alexander Sharrer (New Oxford HS) attending Kansas State University.

Join us for our next meeting on Tuesday, July 7 (5:30pm social/6:00pm program) at the Harbaugh-Thomas Library in Biglerville. Sharron Michels, a former Master Gardener, will share her knowledge of designing period gardens, specifically of the American Colonial period, and then elaborate on how these gardens are filled with historically accurate plantings and accents. All are welcome to attend this special America250 event!

Happy National Garden Week (June 7 - 13)! BGC members have been busy sharing their love of gardening with the community! Currently there is a display about the club that highlights our interests and upcoming events at the Harbaugh-Thomas Library. Members also created "Biglerville Blooms" flower arrangements and then delivered them to the library, the Biglerville Borough Office and Police Department, the Upper Adams Administration Office, and the Biglerville Fire Hall. In addition, members helped students design "Dinosaur Gardens" at the library and provided a horticulture session at the Upper Adams Senior Center. Just a note, the club is still having a porch plant sale (to benefit student scholarships) now through the weekend. Check out what's still available at: 149 East York Street, Biglerville.

BGC members recently visited the Appalachian Trail Museum in Gardners. The site is located within the historic Pine Grove Furnace State Park and is at the approximate halfway point of the over 2,180 mile-long Appalachian Trail. The exhibit featuring Emma "Grandma" Gatewood was of particular interest as it was a great follow-up to last year's presentation about her journey in 1955 where at the age of 67 she became the first solo woman thru-hiker on the trail.

Join us for our next meeting on Tuesday, June 2 (5:30pm social/6:00pm program) at the Harbaugh-Thomas Library in Biglerville. Don Wert, owner of Wert Landscape and Design, will present a program featuring his approach to landscape design, the services his company provides, and unique property transformations that he has overseen. After the presentation and business meeting, there will also be a silent auction of new/gently used goodies donated by members. The auction benefits our club's student scholarship fund. All are welcome!

🪏Dividing plants and don't know what to do with them? 🤷‍♀️Donate them to the Biglerville Garden Club for us to sell at our plant sale. All funds go back to our community of the form of youth scholarships, educational programs, or beautification projects. Donations will be accepted Friday May 16th 2026 from 1pm-3pm at the National Apple Museum Sillik Pavilion 154 W. Hanover St Biglerville PA 17307
