🚨 Deck Skirting Tip: It Needs Gaps to Breathe 🚨
Deck skirting can really finish off the look of a project, but one thing homeowners should know:
Deck skirting should not be installed so tight that it blocks airflow.
A lot of homeowners love the clean look of skirting, but be careful — closing in the bottom of a deck too tightly can restrict airflow and trap moisture underneath.
That can lead to mold, rot, and a shorter lifespan for the framing below.
Even composite decks usually have wood framing under them, so proper ventilation still matters.
This is why we leave intentional spacing in deck skirting designs whenever needed.
A finished look is great. A properly built deck is even better.
