Brevard County has been giving out free grant money up to $24,000 for some time now with the Save Our Indian River Lagoon Program. Program covers replacing septic systems, connecting septic to public sewer, and replacing sewer lines and cleanouts. Believe there are no income restrictions for this either. Visit the site if you're in need of any septic or sewer projects for your home or call them at (321) 633-2016.

Grant funding is available for local governments, organizations and Brevard residents for eligible projects. Application is available for download.

My Safe FL Home gives up to $10,000 FREE for projects like roofs and windows! First, you apply and they give you a free Hurricane Mitigation Inspection. Income levels up to 120% of area median will qualify (i.e., in Brevard, data shows this is $83,760 for 1 person and $119,520 for 4 people).

What it covers: Improvements recommended by the program inspection, including eligible roof strengthening or replacement work, roof-to-wall connections, roof-deck attachments, secondary water barriers, hurricane shutters, impact windows and exterior or garage doors.

Money type: A true grant, not a loan or lien. Maximum grant: $10,000. Some projects require a homeowner contribution.

Basic eligibility:

Owner-occupied, site-built single-family home or townhouse
Florida homestead exemption
Home insured value of $700,000 or less
Original building permit dated before January 1, 2008
Must first receive the program’s free inspection
Mobile homes, condominiums, rentals and vacation homes are not eligible

Grant applications are prioritized by income and age; households under 80% of area median income receive higher priority. Income levels up to 120% of area median qualify.
