💗 Cobaltoan Calcite | Democratic Republic of the Congo
Cobaltoan calcite is a cobalt-bearing variety of calcite recognized for its intense pink to raspberry-red coloration. The color results from cobalt substituting for calcium within the calcite crystal structure.
These specimens display vivid magenta to raspberry-pink mineralization, with sparkling microcrystalline surfaces and contrasting green, brown, white, and gray areas of associated matrix. The variation in texture ranges from fine-grained, drusy coatings to more pronounced crystalline aggregates, creating striking color contrasts across the specimen.
Cobalt-bearing calcite from the DRC is highly sought after by mineral collectors for its saturated coloration and distinctive appearance. The contrasting matrix and multiple mineral textures make these specimens particularly interesting for studying mineral associations and crystal growth.
