Spring is here! That means, spring cleaning is also in the air! Give us a call, and we can discuss what would be best for you for your spring cleaning needs!

Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve are right around the corner. Having clean carpets when guests are arriving is nice and makes your house smell fresh. Think about hiring a professional carpet cleaning business, or, we would be happy to rent a carpet cleaner and clean your carpet/rugs for you. (yes, we would move furniture so that a thorough job can be done) Just let us know!

Lovely weather we are having in the hills, isn't it? Still a good idea to get your ceiling fans cleaned off and change the rotational direction. For the winter, you need to have the blade rotating in a "clockwise" direction. Heat rises, so having your fan blades rotating clockwise in the winter time will help get that warm air provided by your furnace/fire place dispersed better.

Other fall/pre-winter projects ideas:

- Cleaning gutters of debris, pine needles, leaves - helps prevent "ice dams" and damage to your roof during the winter.

- Change out furnace filters

- Drain, flush, clean out water heater

- Check exterior caulking of windows. See if they need re-done

Fall is in the air, isn't it? Time to think about pre-winter projects that are perfect for this time of year.

One of those projects is carpet cleaning. With your windows open in the summer, the fresh air brings in dust, pollen, and other things. Getting your carpets cleaned before winter is a good way to get a clean jump-start on the winter. Healthy for your home and healthy for you!

Make sure and get a reputable carpet cleaning company. Or, you can opt to rent a carpet cleaning machine and do the cleaning yourself. We are also available to help with this project if you would like. Just give us a call!

Ceiling fans - It's that time of year! Change the rotational direction of your ceiling fans to get the most out of them for the summer/warm months. Your ceiling fans should be rotating in a COUNTER-CLOCKWISE direction. This will help force the room air downward - giving a wind chill effect and helps you to feel cooler.

While you are doing this adjustment, it is the perfect time to clean your fan blades and motor housing. If you would like us to help you with this task, contact us or give us a call to help you out!

Happy March 1, everyone! Spring is around the corner, so that means spring cleaning is probably on your mind. Contact us so that we can help you with all of your spring cleaning needs!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Start off the new year the right way by doing these simple things, monthly, around your home:

Refrigerator: Vacuum the vents; clean coils are more energy efficient. Check the drain pan for excess water.

Furnace and fans: Check and clean or replace the furnace filter; a dirty filter impedes the flow and quality of air. Exhaust fans in the kitchen and bath tend to collect dirt. (Hint: Be sure to turn off the power before cleaning.)

Drains: Why resort to toxic drain chemicals? You need only pour one cup of baking soda in and around each sink drain, then follow with 1/2 cup of white vinegar. A half hour later, chase the mixture with a cup or two of boiling water.

Sinks and tubs: Check kitchen and bath grout and caulking. Discoloration could be hiding damage. When the waterproof seal is broken, structural damage and harmful molds can find a home in the wall.

DIY maintenance is eco-friendly because you're preventing untimely replacements and extensive repairs that waste resources.

If you would like us to help you with these tasks and put you ona monthly schedule for these things, give us a call!

Microwave oven cleaning - Put a large cup or measuring cup of water in your microwave. Bring the water to a "low boil" while in the microwave. Without opening the microwave door, let this sit and steam in the microwave for at least 10 minutes. Splattered food and other stains can then be easily wiped away.

Oven Cleaning - Don't have a self-cleaning oven? And you are looking for a DIY, more natural oven cleaner?

Apply a paste of sodium bicarbonate and water on the walls and floor of the oven. Keep oven on a low temperature for about 30 minutes. Dried food can then be easily removed.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm WARNING for Heavy Snow starting at 5 p.m. today through 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Fog will continue this morning across much of the area, reducing visibilities near 1/4 mile at times. The fog will decrease today, but may linger across central SD through the day, before pushing back westward again tonight. Freezing fog and patchy freezing drizzle may make roads and sidewalks slippery.
A strong low pressure system will begin affecting the region this evening, bringing snow to northeastern Wyoming and the Black Hills. Snow will diminish Tuesday night with the heaviest snow expected to fall tonight into Tuesday afternoon. 6-9 inches of snow expected in the Northern Hills, with locally higher amounts possible. Gusty North winds Tuesday will result in areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility. Travel may become difficult Monday evening through Tuesday night.

Furnace Filters - Your furnace is the heart of your home during the winter. Its smooth operation is key to keeping you comfortable and toasty during those cold days and nights. In addition to getting your furnace inspected on an annual basis, a very simple way to ensure your furnace operates efficiently is with a clean furnace filter.

Some of the benefits of a clean furnace filter are:

1) Air Flow
2) Heater Performance
3) Indoor air quality

Dirty filters can cause dust, grime and debris to build up on heater components, which can impair the efficiency of the entire heating system. Over time, the heater’s performance weakens while the energy usage steadily increases. Replacing a clogged filter with clean one can lower an HVAC system’s energy consumption by as much as 15 percent, according to the EPA.

A good rule of thumb is to change your filters every 30 days. If you are purchasing filters that the manufacturer says can be used for up to 90 days - take them out of the furnace compartment once a month and use a compressor to blow off/out the dust. Then put the filter back in place!

Changing your filter is a task that can take less than 5 minutes. An easy and low cost way to help be energy efficient, boost you indoor air quality, and probably extend the life of your furnace. If you are unfamiliar with changing your filters and would like some assistance, give us a call!
