It has been incredibly busy the last two months which is a good thing. But the last week and a half I finally got to tackle a project for an old friend that's been on the waiting list for quite a while. Here we had a garage man door that had seen better days. The door itself was rusted through, and the frame and brick molding were rotted. It also was about 30" of the ground and had no steps. I replaced the door and built this landing and stairs to give this entrance some new life.

Also, they had an enclosed porch, but the floor had some soft spots from water damage around the door. I pulled the old carpet and repaired the floor. Luckily the damage was minimal and easily repairable. I then added the appropriate flashing around the door and installed a new aluminum door. After that I laid a new LVP floor and they now have their porch back for morning coffee and relaxation.

I took the business to new heights today! I had a customer with a failed motor on their ceiling fan. The fan box was a bit over 15’ in a vaulted ceiling but that’s no problem here at Griff’s. Broke out the scaffolding and got it done. Replaced the fan motor and receiver for the remote.

🎉 ONE YEAR! 🎉

September 22nd marks the one-year anniversary of Griff’s Home Services officially becoming a business in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania!

When I decided to take the leap and start this business, I went into it with a lot of uncertainty. I knew there would be challenges along the way—and there certainly have been—but looking back on this first year, I’m incredibly proud to say that we’ve exceeded every goal I set for year one.

From the beginning, the mission behind Griff’s Home Services has been pretty simple: to provide an honest, reliable, and affordable option for homeowners who need those smaller projects around the house taken care of.

Whether it’s something as simple as hanging a picture or a more involved, multi-day project, the goal is to be the person you can call to get the job done—and get it done right. No job is too small.

As we head into year two, I’m excited to continue growing and evolving the company while staying true to what got us here in the first place: quality work, fair pricing, reliability, and treating our customers and their homes with respect.

There are also some people I need to thank.

Susan Corr — Thank you for giving me the original push to take the leap and start this business. You’ve been a huge advocate, supporter, and customer from the very beginning.

Scott Hipple — Thank you for sending one of my first—and best—customers my way. Those early referrals mean more than people realize when you’re trying to get a new business off the ground.

Kelly Schavnis — Thank you for all of your support and help along the way.

Laura George — Thank you for your continued support and for everything you’ve done to help advertise the business, connect me with customers, and so much more.

And to my children, Emma and Brendan — thank you for your continued help, encouragement, and support. It means more to me than you know.

There are so many other friends, family members, customers, and people in the community who have recommended Griff’s, shared our posts, passed along our name, or trusted us with a project in their home. There are simply too many of you to list individually, but please know how much I appreciate every one of you.

Most importantly, thank you to all of our customers. Every phone call, text, referral, review, and project has helped make this first year possible.

One year down, and hopefully many more to come.

Here’s to Year 2 and whatever comes next!

Thank you for supporting Griff’s Home Services! 🛠️🏠

While we're still offering all the other services we have since the beginning, we are now scheduling fall furnace tuneups. We aim to be a one stop shop for our loyal customers that we've built relationships with. We're not looking to take business away from anyone but if you're tired of HVAC companies that want to lock you into a contract for a monthly or yearly fee, we'd be happy to help you out. There are no contracts or obligations and never any pressured sales tactics to get you to upgrade your equipment. Only an honest recommendation and someone you can look to for a majority of your smaller home maintenance needs. Need a window repaired, a light switch replaced, or smoke detector batteries changed while we're there? We've got you covered!

It's a sad day here at Griff's Home Services. Today we laid our most loyal employee to rest.

I have had several of my customers ask me if I could help them with their AC issues over the summer. While I don't plan to specialize in HVAC, I wanted to be able to help my customers. I'm proud to announce that this morning I passed my EPA608 certification in order to handle and work on refrigerant systems. If you are having issues with your AC or Heating system, feel free to reach out and see if it's something I can help you with.

Here is another shower install I finished up today for a customer. This one is cultured marble walls and shower pan manufactured by Luicana Customs. Gotta love the diverter valve, body sprays, and hand shower on this one. The customer is doing a full remodel of their 2nd floor bathroom and just hired us to do the shower and drywall finishing. I included the obligatory pic of my help sitting down on the job after he decided the cultured marble is too heavy to carry to the 2nd floor. It seems to be a trend with him! 🤣

Here is an example of the kind of customer service that Griff's Home Services is all about. I have been extremely busy these last few weeks and I have had more calls coming in every day. This week I am pretty tied up on a bathroom remodel.

I got a call yesterday from a customer who lived in a mobile home park and sounded somewhat desperate. They had a severe water leak that needed addressed and had been leaking for at least five days. They had contacted a plumbing company who came and quoted them $1300. They could not afford that and also felt they were getting gouged. I told him I would look at it but couldn't get there until today. I wanted to say I was too busy, but something didn't sit right with me about the quote he got based on the description of the problem.

Late this afternoon I made time to get over to his home. When I got there, it was very obvious it had been leaking for some time as water was pooling in the yard and under the home. It was also obvious it was not going to be easy accessing the area where the leak was. But I sucked it up and put on a Tyvek suit and went spelunking. Someone had done a previous repair to some polybutylene using the incorrect fittings and it failed. Water was pouring out like an open spigot. I made the repair using the proper fittings and made the customer aware that he had polybutylene which is prone to failure so he may have similar issues again.

In the end I was at this customers house for approximately an hour and used about $50 in materials and disposable items. This job should have never been quoted at $1300. Yes, it was miserable conditions. Yes, the job demanded a premium because of those conditions. Yes, I charged a premium and made good money. No, I did not gouge the customer.

In the end I had a very happy customer that paid 1/3 of his original quote and will probably now be a customer in the future or give me referrals. This business is like any other and needs to make a profit. I am not the cheapest by far. But I also am not going to gouge someone in a time of need.

Here's some shed doors I recently built for a customer. The old doors were rotten and would not close properly anymore. Now they can lock their shed again and the doors operate properly.
