Someone once told me they thought I was born on the wrong coast. After 2 weeks lost in colors of a New England Fall, I fear they might be right. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a California girl, but a part of my heart came to life underneath the Autumn tree canopies, wrapped in blankets of red and yellow and gold. Much more in the coming days, but for now I’m just grateful. And as Anne Shirley said it- I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.🍁🍂🧡

When IG friends become real life friends🥰 I’ve thought about quitting social media many times, but this little community and the friends I’ve made here bless my heart more than I can express. I got to visit Tiffany Kopper and see her dreamy New England home in person! She is an artist through and through and brings beauty to everything she touches. They don’t come any sweeter than her! 🧄Wanna know a secret??🧄 Last year all my “seed” garlic came from Costco! $4.89 for 2lbs and it wasn’t even organic😬. But the grower was local and from MY GARDEN ZONE so I thought I’d be worth a try! For less than $5, I didn’t have much to lose. Turns out, those 2lbs of garlic grew into over 12lbs of beautiful heads of garlic!🧄🧄🧄 The best thing you can do with gardening is to research, experiment and start with you have available to you. Do what works for YOU! You never know what delicious discovery you’ll make along the way!

When you bring home summer melons or winter squash from the store or farmstand, give them a wash/scrub! This cleans off any dirt pathogens or bacteria on the skin that may travel as soon as you slice it up. A lot of “food poisoning” comes from unclean produce so it’s always good to wash/clean when you can. My favorite way is just a little dish soap, water and a scrubber. I usually wash them as soon as I bring them home so I don’t forget!

A little Deeply Rooted Kitchen update: just wanted to mention that I’ll be taking a break this fall for all of October and November. My husband is getting a sabbatical through his job and we going to spend it together!
Local friends: this means I won’t be doing any garden plant-outs, consults or classes this fall. It also means I’m putting my community garden beds to rest (my only garden will be at home!). You KNOW this is difficult as fall is my favorite time to garden AND teach😩 But just like the soil needs rest every so often, so do we! So I’m going to practice rest/sabbath.
If you have any fall gardening/cooking questions I can answer, please let me know! I’ll still be here on IG/FB.
