Great Theatre in the Great Outdoors! Traveling Players Ensemble's camp provides intensive, classical theatre training to small troupes of actors who are carefully guided by professional theatre artists to perform in outdoor settings. Our program reflects the origins of theatre, when troupes of actors roamed the ancient and medieval countryside, relying on the barest props and boldest imagination to convey their art. Each session culminates in a fully mounted and designed performance which tours to several locations, cultivating stronger, more adaptable and capable artists and individuals. Traveling Players emphasizes a meaningful engagement with nature. Our unique day camp (Monday-Friday) features a campout every Thursday - when performers learn Leave No Trace camping techniques, pitching tents and cooking outdoors. In their final week, teens tour their show and campout close to their performance sites - giving them the experience of wandering entertainers who carry their dinner, tent and props in their trusty pack. As artists and backpackers, campers learn self-reliance, creative problem solving, and to appreciate challenges and beauty. Our Accomplishments: •Selected as a "Summer School in the Arts" by the NEA - One of 25 in the Nation •11 students won their school's English Speaking Union Shakespeare Competition •Twice featured on WAMU's "Metro Connection" •Called "a little-known summer gem" by the Washington Post •Awarded 116 scholarships totaling $90,295 •Over 2200 happy campers! •381 performances, including: -Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage - Colonial Williamsburg -International Children's Festival at Wolf Trap - Reston Multicultural Festival -Folger Shakespeare Library's Secondary School Festival

Today's #TPEMADE spotlight is shining bright on the director of the Olympians, Cassie Murray!

Where did you go to college?
Colorado State University and University of Northern Colorado

What did you study?
Undergrad: Bachelor of Music in Music Education; Graduate School: Master of Arts in Theatre Education

What are you doing now?
Currently, I run my own business teaching voice and acting lessons for students of all ages. Immediately before that I was a public school choir and theatre teacher in a Denver, Colorado suburb.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
The best part of my job is spending time with my students as a mentor; I love being a trusted adult who supports them as developing artists and human beings. I also love the flexibility and creativity that my work enables. I'm lucky to set my own schedule and launch projects of my own design.

What makes you #TPEMade?
The community at TPE set the example for the communities I've built as a teacher - I have been able to form my students into caring and creative ensembles because I was part of one as a teenager. Now, as they graduate from high school and go out into the world, they know what it feels like to be part of a healthy and supportive team. It's a lot easier to find those when you know what to look for!

Today we're launching #TPEMADE - a spotlight on our awesome students and alumns!

Today's #TPEMADE alumn is Robert Boyd a longtime camper and wildlife filmmaker!

What was your major in college? Where did you go to college?
I am currently pursuing an MFA in Film, with a Concentration in Environmental Filmmaking, at American University.

What are you doing now?
Right now I’m finishing up my studies at American University, and completing a videography Fellowship with the National Park Service.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
During my fellowship with the National Park Service, I had the opportunity to travel across the United States, filming scientists and wildlife. In addition, I was able to co-host and narrate the final short films we created. Overall, it was a really cool experience.

What makes you #TPEMADE?
The presentation skills I gained from TPE have really helped me during job interviews. In addition, I’ve been doing a lot of narration work for videos. This is a skill I hope to market going forward. Anything to help me pay off my college loans!

This is the most awesome theater summer camp ever. Yael LOVED it for years!
Jeanne Harrison is a gifted artist and all who participate in her programs will grow immensely!
Just spent an exhilarating 45 minutes watching the amazing cast of Winnie the Pooh and Friends in the new dvd. I saw so many details I missed when I saw the original - and I saw the cast perform it twice! Each actor was so wonderfully in character and so funny and delightful to watch! Thank you all again for bringing this little play of mine to life. Your acting was done with love. And Michael Oosterhout, your recording of the songs was done with such care and professionalism. I always enjoy working with you! Congratulations to Jessica, and Jeannie, and all who helped make this happen.
Absolutely the best show ever! Thank you so much for the amazing fun filled non stop laughs. I had to borrow a tissue to wipe my tears away from laughing so hard. Your show should be on BROADWAY! Yes, it was that good
