👊🏼POWER IN THE BLOOD👊🏼
This guys pedigree reads like royalty!
✔️Money Talks - Fortune - Warfare
✔️Monumental-Hillbilly Bone
✔️Monster Pipe-Super Monster
✔️Gone Viral-Insider-Priceless
✔️38 Special-Alias 106-3
✔️Fatal Attraction-Bone Collector

Longevity is not something you hear much in the boar stud business. Either they don’t generate good enough to stay around or they aren’t sound enough to survive the test of time! When Scott brought CBK out of his pen my first impression was what an impressive hip and hind leg for a 5 year old boar. He uses all his angles when laying down and jumps up like a cat when it’s feeding time. This dude is power with soundness.

Our sows are the pride and joy of what we do.

This old show gilt…

If this old show gilt could talk she would tell you her skin wasn’t always this dry and wrinkly.

She would take you back in time to being born on hard wood floors, and almost being sold and forgotten because she wasn’t the bloomy or flashy one in her litter.

She would tell you about all the great sows before her and how she had enormous shoes to fill.

She could take you down memory lane to her first time in the yard, her first time heading to a show, and her first of many banners.

She might explain what it was like to be the underdog, and how much of an attitude it takes to become a champion. You see not every show pig has the fire, the passion, the drive or the heart it takes to not only get to the show ring, but to own it unapologetically.

If this old show gilt could talk she would tell you what life’s like after the banner too. A time filled with uncertainty. After her show career, after the banners have been stashed away, and after the new has worn off. Her skin would start to see less conditioner, and begin to flake, evening walks would cease and her feed ration would look much differently now.

The time would come around for her to be bred and if she only knew the amount guts it took to breed her to our own herd boar. It was take a chance and go for it all, but we knew she was the one to carry that dream.

115 days later she would probably tell you that late cold January night wasn’t a walk in the park… She might tell you she could feel the prayers going up as each new baby made its way into an eager young ladies arms. She would tell you one baby almost didn’t make it, but God had other amazing plans for him. That night was far from glamorous, but she would tell you I never left her side.

Fast forward to the summer as her pigs were blazing their own paths there was clearly a stand out. That one lifeless baby had made his ultimate come back. As his mother before he was a fighter.

This old show gilt has seen a lot over the years. Her skin is dry, her hooves are cracked, and she has lost a lot of hair and weight. The one thing she has never lost is that spark in her eye and her never give up attitude.

You see she’s not just “some old show gilt” she is a prime example of never giving up, beating the odds, and taking a CHANCE on your dreams!

We induce most if not all of our sows/gilts. With the body styles shown today it is not uncommon to have to pull a few. Inducing allows us to plan ahead to either have someone on hand or be around to assist. I am a firm believer that this method works for our herd.

On The Backside of the Farrowing Crate: To Induce or Not To Induce, That is The Question.

The subject of inducing farrowing comes up often and people usually feel very strongly about this subject one way or the other. My advise varies on this subject from herd to herd and from season to season.

During the summer farrowing season I do NOT let gilts or high risk sows go over 114 days. In most cases allowing these females to go over due results in problems. I know people are going to say my breed normally carries to day 118 for them to be term. Well if that works in your herd for your farm roll with that. That is why I prefaced this with things varying from herd to herd.

In my experience we have gotten gilts back from OYE, turned around and bred them on the first or second heat cycle back and they now may or may not be in farrowing condition. These are really the high risk females I’m talking about that induction might be a wise idea.

The other times inducing is beneficial is if you have gilts you are worried about and know you will not be available to monitor them during certain times. This allows you or someone you trust to be available if the need arises to assist delivery of piglets. We do often times have clients induce a set of animals for us to farrow our for them or so we can adjust our schedule to know what area we might need to be in on any given day.

Do I think inducing causes problem? Nope, I think if there are issues then there would have been issues otherwise. I will say that if a gilt/sow does not respond to the induction protocol or is slow to respond that means one of 2 things. 1. The litter is short and there are only a few babies. 2. There are dead pigs in the litter.

There are a few different induction protocols and we recommend talking to your vet to determine the best one in your situation. Do NOT induce before day 110 (you will not like this outcome) and I usually induce to farrow at day 112 or 113.

During other times of the year I don’t feel like it is as important to not let litters go over day 114 and am not quite so high on inducing. Remember to give us a shout if the need arises! 719-671-9574

We never showed Tiki, she was solely a replacement gilt. Never really pushed her to be anything. And sometimes to get the great ones that's what it takes. Tiki had 17 piglets! And would raise every single one of them if she could. We split nursed them and have transferred 6 to a milker.

We are blessed to have the new set of great grandpigs of our precious Blue Eyes!
