Sometimes the best stain color is no stain at all.

For this solid walnut floor, we sanded everything back down and let the natural character of the wood take center stage.

No stain. Just 3 coats of water-based polyurethane to protect the floor while keeping the color as clean and natural as possible.

Walnut already brings plenty of depth, variation, and character on its own.

New hardwood doesn’t always match existing hardwood right away — even when the species, grade, and width are exactly the same.

On this project, both sides are 2 1/4” White Oak Select solid flooring. The lighter section is newly installed. The darker section has been in the home for years and has naturally changed color over time through oxidation, aging, and light exposure.

That initial difference can surprise homeowners, but it’s completely normal. New wood needs time to begin aging into the existing floor.

It’s one of those details that matters when tying new hardwood into an older home.

Delivery day at the ranch.

A lot has to happen before the first board ever goes down.

Materials are now on site and getting acclimated ahead of this October start. This one has been in the planning stages for a while, and we’re looking forward to seeing it come together.

FROM START TO FINISH | Custom Bleached Red Oak

This one was all about the process.

We started with existing Red Oak floors that carried the natural red and pink undertones the species is known for. The goal was to create something lighter, softer and more neutral — while still allowing the natural character of the wood to remain.

So we took a different approach.

The floors were completely sanded → bleached to reduce the red and pink undertones → carefully prepped → stained with a custom blend of 2 Parts Country White + 1 Part Dark Walnut → and finished to bring the entire transformation together.

No shortcut. No one-size-fits-all stain color.

Just a process built around getting the right result for this home.

You’ve seen the samples. You’ve seen the bleach process. You’ve seen the Project Highlight.

Now watch it all come together.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHT

Custom Bleached Red Oak.

You saw the process. Now here’s the finished result.

This is the project where we took you behind the scenes of bleaching hardwood floors — and these photos show exactly why we went through that process.

The existing Red Oak floors and staircase were bleached to help soften the natural red and pink undertones of the wood before applying our custom stain blend.

From there, we created a custom color blend of stains.

The goal wasn’t to make Red Oak look like something it isn’t. It was to create a lighter, softer tone that worked naturally with the home while still allowing the character and grain of the Red Oak to show through.

And after all the bleach talk… here’s the payoff.

A completely custom finish, created specifically for this home.

A simple upgrade that completely changes the feel of the space.

We removed the existing carpet upstairs and replaced it with 3¼” Select Grade Solid Red Oak, nailed down over Aquabar and finished in DuraSeal® Medium Brown.

The goal wasn’t to overcomplicate it — just a clean, timeless hardwood addition built to feel like it belongs with the rest of the home.

Carpet out. Hardwood in.

There’s more to a successful hardwood flooring project than the finished floor.

Sometimes the best solution isn’t finding the closest match.

When this homeowner wanted to expand their bedroom, the original hardwood had been discontinued. Instead of forcing a mismatched repair, we designed an intentional transition.

By using a complementary border that tied into the existing floor, we were able to frame a lighter floor in the center—making the change feel like it was always part of the design.

A discontinued floor doesn’t have to limit your options.

Sometimes the right answer isn’t matching what’s there.
It’s designing something even better.
