Ever stare at a task you want to do⦠and still feel completely unable to start? That can be task paralysisāand it is a real ADHD experience, not a character flaw.
When a task feels too big, unclear, boring, urgent, or loaded with too many decisions, your brain may hit the brakes. Instead of pushing harder, try lowering the starting point:
Donāt āclean the kitchen.ā Put away one item.
Donāt āanswer emails.ā Open the inbox.
Donāt āorganize the closet.ā Choose one shelf.
Set a timer for five minutes and give yourself permission to stop when it ends.
Ask for support or try body doublingāworking alongside someone, virtually or in person.
The goal is not to finish everything today. The goal is to make the next step small enough to begin.
You are not lazy. You may just need a little more structure, less friction, and systems that work with your brain.
