Why does an AC freeze up? One of the most common causes is restricted airflow from a dirty filter, dirty evaporator coil, blocked vents, or blower issues. Low refrigerant can also cause the evaporator coil to get too cold and freeze.

Once the coil freezes, your AC may stop cooling properly, airflow can become very weak, and the system can continue running without actually cooling your home.

If you notice ice on your AC system, weak airflow, or your home isn’t cooling like it should, have it checked before the problem gets worse.

Refrigerant leaks are one of the most common AC problems we see in Florida, especially with systems that run hard almost year-round.

One of the fastest ways to track down a leak is with an electronic refrigerant leak detector, also called a sniffer. You slowly move the detector around common leak points like the evaporator coil, condenser coil, service valves, fittings, and copper connections. If refrigerant is leaking, the detector will alert you as you get closer to the source.

The key is to move slowly and actually verify the leak before just adding refrigerant. Continuously topping off a leaking system without finding the problem is not a real repair.

If your AC keeps losing refrigerant, there’s a reason. Find the leak first.

What causes weak airflow from your AC vents? Weak airflow can be caused by a dirty air filter, clogged evaporator coil, blocked or leaking ductwork, a dirty blower wheel, or a blower motor that isn’t working properly.

Low airflow can make your home uncomfortable, force your AC to run longer, and put extra stress on the system. If your vents aren’t blowing like they used to, it’s worth getting the system checked before it turns into a bigger repair.

What happens when your evaporator coil gets dirty? When dirt and buildup cover the coil, it can’t properly absorb heat from the air. This can lead to poor cooling, longer run times, higher electric bills, frozen coils, and unnecessary stress on your AC system.

Keeping your evaporator coil clean helps your system cool more efficiently and can prevent bigger problems down the road.

Daikin inverter air conditioners are awesome systems, especially here in Florida where your AC can run for hours every day. Instead of constantly turning on and off like a traditional system, an inverter can ramp the compressor up and down to match the cooling demand, which can improve comfort, humidity control, and efficiency.

But the equipment is only as good as the setup.

You need to make sure the system is sized correctly, the ductwork can handle the airflow, the refrigerant lines are installed properly, drainage is right, and the electrical setup meets the manufacturer’s requirements. Putting high-end inverter equipment on bad ductwork or an improper installation can cause headaches and keep you from getting the benefits you paid for.

Inverter systems are cool — just make sure the entire system is designed and installed correctly for your Florida home.

What does HEPA filtration actually do for your home?

A HEPA filter is designed to capture extremely small airborne particles that standard filters may miss, including dust, pollen, pet dander, and other fine particles floating through the air.

For homeowners who deal with allergies, pets, excessive dust, or indoor air quality concerns, better filtration can make a noticeable difference.

The important thing is making sure the filtration system is properly matched to your HVAC equipment. You don’t want to install something that restricts airflow and makes your AC work harder.

Good indoor air quality isn’t just about keeping your home cold — it’s also about keeping the air moving through your home cleaner.

Why does your AC keep turning on and off?

One of the most common reasons is a clogged drain line.

Your air conditioner removes a huge amount of moisture from the air, especially here in South Florida. All of that water has to drain somewhere, and over time, dirt, algae, and buildup can clog the drain line.

When that happens, the float switch can shut the system off to help prevent water damage. Then the AC may start back up, shut off again, or stop running completely.

Other causes can include thermostat issues, dirty filters, low refrigerant, electrical problems, or failing components—but the drain line is one of the first things we check.

If your AC keeps cycling on and off, don’t ignore it. A small drainage issue can turn into a much bigger problem.

In this video, we show you how to replace an A/C blower motor step by step. A failing blower motor can cause weak airflow, strange noises, overheating, or your air conditioner to stop moving air completely.
