💧 It didn’t look like much...
Just a little damage at the bottom of a wall. Easy to think it was a small repair... But, it wasn’t. 🔎
A failed outdoor faucet had been leaking inside the wall every time it was turned on, completely hidden from view. Even worse, mortar behind the brick was trapping water against the wood structure of the house. By the time the wall was opened up, much of the wood beneath and around the window had rotted away. And here’s where things got interesting... 🏠
This was the first floor of a two-story townhouse. The damaged wall was helping support the second floor and roof above it, so the bad wood couldn’t simply be torn out and replaced.
First, the structure above had to be temporarily supported so the damaged sections could be safely removed. Then came another challenge: figuring out how to rebuild the wall and replace the rotted sheathing from inside the house — without tearing apart the brick exterior. 🛠️
Piece by piece, the damaged structure was removed and rebuilt while everything above remained safely supported.
..All from something that didn’t look like much.
