Before you sign with any window or door company, ask these 5 questions
New windows are a big investment, and lately we've heard from a lot of homeowners who found a few surprises after they signed. The good news is that a few simple questions up front can save you a lot of headaches. A good company will be happy to answer every one.
1. Who's actually installing my windows? Phrases like "in-house crew," "dedicated installers," or "our installers" sound great, but they don't always mean employees. Ask directly whether the installers are the company's own W-2 employees or subcontractors, and get the answer in writing.
2. Exactly which product am I getting? Most brands make several product lines, from entry level to top tier. Make sure the exact line and options are printed on your contract, not just the brand name.
3. What does the warranty cover, and who stands behind it? Find out what's covered on the product and on the installation, and who you call if something goes wrong.
4. Are your installers certified and background-checked? It's your home and your family, so it's fair to ask what training the people working there have and whether they've passed a background check.
5. How does this compare to my other quotes? Lay them side by side and go line by line. Here's a fun tip: AI tools are great at this. Upload your quotes and ask what's different. You might be surprised what turns up!
At Forefront, our installers are OSI certified, ProVia factory trained, and background-checked, and we're always glad to answer these questions, even if you're getting other quotes too. Bring on the questions!
