Choosing Paint Colors for North-Facing Colorado Rooms (Without the Cool Cast)

North-facing rooms in Colorado get steady, cool light that can turn a friendly gray into a chilly one. Here's how to pick warm undertones that hold up — and how to test them against your own room before you commit.

North-facing rooms are the ones people quietly complain about. The color looked warm on the chip, warm on the wall in the store, and then it went flat and a little blue once it was up. That's not a bad paint choice — it's the light.

Here's what's happening, and how to pick colors that stay inviting in that steady northern light...

Picking a Bold Interior Door Color That Still Looks Right With Your Trim

A painted interior door is one of the easiest ways to add character to a room without touching the walls. Swap a builder-grade white slab for a deep charcoal, a soft sage, or a navy blue and the whole hallway reads more finished. But bold doors only work when they sit right next to your trim and walls — and that's exactly where a lot of DIY color picks go sideways.

Here's how we think about it, and how to test a color before you commit...

Six Things a Painting Bid Should Spell Out (and What It Means When It Doesn't)

Most painting bids are a number and a paragraph. The good ones are a list you can check on the day. Here are the six things a bid should state in writing, why each one matters, and the red flag when it's missing.

Here are the six things a bid should state, in writing, and what it usually means when one is missing. None of this is about price. Two honest bids can be far apart on price for good reasons. It's about whether you can tell what you're buying...

Celery, Sherwin-Williams' 2027 Color of the Year: What It Actually Looks Like on a Wall

Sherwin-Williams picked Celery (SW 6421) for 2027: a light, warm, herbal green that reads anywhere from soft green to pale butter depending on the light. Here's what it really is, how it behaves in Colorado sun, where it works in a house, what to pair it with, and how to sample it before you commit.

Every year Sherwin-Williams names one color, and every year we get the same question a few weeks later: "Is it actually a good color, or just the one they're pushing?" For 2027 the pick is Celery, SW 6421. The honest answer is that it's a better real-world wall color than most Color of the Year picks. It's also easy to get wrong in a Colorado house. Here's what it is, where it works, and how to test it before you commit.

What Celery actually is:
Sherwin-Williams describes Celery as "an airy, herbal green" with "subtle yellow undertones," sitting between an airy pastel and a grounded, herbal hue. The theme they hung on it is "Refresh & Restore," and it comes out of their Colormix 2027 trend forecast...

12 Common Mistakes to Avoid When Painting Your Home Interior

Twelve interior painting mistakes that cost Front Range homeowners time and money, and how to avoid each one.

Painting your home interior can seem like a simple DIY project—just grab a brush and some paint, and you’re good to go, right? Not quite. A lot can go wrong if you skip steps or use the wrong materials. At Wild Fox Painting, we’ve seen homeowners make the same mistakes over and over again, often costing them more time and money in the end.

Here are 12 common interior painting mistakes and how to avoid them...

1. Skipping Prep Work
Prep work isn’t fun, but it’s critical. You need to patch holes, sand rough areas, clean dirty walls, and protect your floors and furniture. Skipping this step leads to uneven finishes and paint that won’t last. Take the time to tape edges, cover trim, and clean every surface before you start painting...

Eight Ways a Cabinet Paint Job Goes Wrong (and Which Ones We Can Fix)

Orange peel, drips, dust nibs, pinholes, chipping, cracking, cloudy patches, a sandpaper texture. Each one has a specific cause, and each one tells you what the last painter skipped. Here's how to read a botched cabinet job, what it takes to fix it properly, and when a fresh coat isn't enough.

A sprayed cabinet finish is unforgiving. Paint on a wall hides a lot; paint on a cabinet door, at eye level, in kitchen light, hides nothing. So when a cabinet job goes wrong, it doesn't go wrong quietly. Homeowners call us with photos, and the photos almost always show one of the same eight problems...

New Article:
What Is Novalk? The Spanish Coating Behind Our 'Buttery Smooth' Cabinet Finishes

Novalk is a Spanish-made 2K industrial wood coating — the same class of finish production cabinet shops and furniture makers use. Here's why Wild Fox chose it, and what it means for your kitchen.

The short answer
Novalk is a 2K (two-component) fine-finish wood coating manufactured in Spain. It's the same category of product that production cabinet shops and furniture makers use to achieve a near-factory finish — not a paint-store rattle can, not a brushed-on wall paint. Wild Fox applies it exclusively to cabinets, sprayed flat in a climate-controlled booth at our Littleton warehouse. The result: a hard, smooth surface that holds up to water, grease, cleaners, and the daily abuse a kitchen actually throws at it.

Painting an Occupied Home: How We Keep Littleton Families Living Through a Repaint

Wondering if you can stay in your house while it's being painted? The short answer is yes — here's exactly how we make that work without turning your life upside down.

Most homeowners don't have a second home to retreat to during a repaint. They have kids, pets, work-from-home setups, and a kitchen they actually need to use. The good news: painting an occupied home is completely manageable when the painter plans for it. Here's how that actually works.

The Question We Hear Most
Before a single drop cloth hits the floor, the most common thing we hear is some version of: "Do we need to leave?"

For an interior repaint using low-VOC or zero-VOC paints — which is standard practice for occupied homes — the honest answer is no. These formulas off-gas at a fraction of the rate that older oil-based paints did. In most cases, rooms are safe to sleep in the same evening the paint goes up. That's not a marketing claim; it's the chemistry of water-based low-VOC latex doing its job.
