I've tried just about everything when it comes to feeding and watering my chickens, but I think I've finally found my favorite setup! ❤️

I bought two trash cans (I believe they're 40 gallons) and ordered feeders and waterers from TikTok. Honestly, they've been a game changer!

These days, all I really have to do is collect eggs and toss in kitchen scraps when we have them. I check the feed and water about every four days to see if anything needs refilling. I also add ice bags to the water when needed.

I add apple c***r vinegar to the water to help keep algae away, too.

It's made chicken keeping so much easier, and I think my girls are pretty happy with their setup! 🐔🥚

I might be overthinking this, but I have a question for those of you who sell eggs from your own egg stands! 🥚

If I put my eggs in a cooler with ice packs and they don't sell, should I move them into the refrigerator afterward?

They're sitting on a rack above the ice packs, so they're cool, but not quite as cold as they would be in the fridge. I brought the cooler inside last night, and the eggs didn't even feel refrigerator-cold.

Now I'm wondering if they're technically considered refrigerated and whether moving them back and forth could cause any issues or affect the eggs.

I hope that makes sense! I just want to make sure I'm handling and storing them properly. Any advice from those of you who run egg stands would be appreciated!

We're finally getting close to finishing the run for our four girls! 🐔🌱 Now I'm ready to make the area around the perimeter look nice while adding a little something for the chickens to enjoy.

I'd love some ideas for plants, shrubs, or flowers that are chicken-friendly and can handle being planted in clay soil.

What have you planted around your chicken run that grows well and keeps your girls happy? Bonus points for plants that are hardy, low-maintenance, and provide a little shade or something to snack on!

I've never had a chick cuddle like this before! 🥹 I was holding her, and she just leaned over, snuggled right into me like a little baby, and fell asleep completely content.

Now I don't want to move and disturb her, so I might as well take a nap with her! 😂

I'm a first-time chicken mom, and I swear I'm falling more in love with these little girls every single day. ❤️

Her name is Dolly, and after this little cuddle session, I think it suits her perfectly! 🥰

Woke up this morning, walked into the living room, and found one of my girls comfortably curled up taking a nap on the couch. 😂 Apparently, the chickens have decided the house is theirs too! 🐔❤️

So, this just happened, and I'm honestly pretty shaken up.

My rooster pulled a pullet right off my lap by her tail feathers. I scolded him, and he immediately started coming toward me. I was sitting on a milk crate right in front of him, so I gently swatted him away. Then he charged at me, and I ended up hitting him harder when he kept coming.

I've read posts about needing to establish boundaries with an aggressive rooster, but I was scared and reacted in the moment. He eventually backed off and slowly walked away. I left the area still shaking.

Now I'm not sure what to do. I've already tried to rehome him, and I'm not comfortable culling him myself. I really enjoy having a rooster and was hoping things would work out, but I'm disappointed and honestly nervous around him now.

Has anyone dealt with a rooster that suddenly became aggressive? Is there a safe way to manage this behavior, or is rehoming my best option? I'd really appreciate advice from people who've been through it. 🥲

My heart is broken as I mourn the loss of my sweet Patty. I'm not ready to talk about what happened just yet. Right now, I'm feeling so much sadness and guilt, and I'm trying to process it all. Rest peacefully, Patty. You were such a special soul. 🖤

I also want to thank my wonderful Backyard Chicken family for all the love, prayers, and support you've sent. Your kindness has meant more than I can put into words.

Patty wasn't just a chicken to me. She was a special part of a childhood dream that finally came true: becoming a chicken mom. It amazes me how many people came to love her, not because she was "just a chicken," but because she was Patty. ❤️

Thank you for understanding and reminding me that I'm not alone. Your support has brought me so much comfort during such a difficult time. 🫶🏼😭

My turkey hatched and raised two little roosters, and apparently they never outgrew being mama's babies! 😂 They're fully grown boys now, but they still ride around on her back and snuggle under her wings to sleep. I guess you're never too old for mama's love! 🤣❤️

EDIT: Coming back a year later to add something. I can't even count how many times this picture has been stolen and reposted by people pretending it's theirs. It's gotten millions of likes, but unfortunately, a lot of those likes are going to accounts stealing my photo and making money from it. Please give credit to the original owner!

My chickens are 17 weeks old and haven't started laying yet, so imagine my excitement when I found this little egg sitting on my patio table! One of my girls had been hanging around there, so I'm wondering if this could be my very first egg. 🥚❤️

Could this be a chicken egg? And if so, do I finally have my first layer? I'm so excited! 🐔

Can anyone help me figure out what breed this sweet girl might be? She's a little shy but has such a lovely personality. She's about 5 months old and hasn't started laying eggs yet. Anyone recognize her? 🐔
