Belle Maison Chairs

I couldn't resist this print 😂 It's the best before-and-after I've ever seen, and I didn't even do the work.

Every chair I bring home looks like the left side. Broken springs, torn fabric, a frame that's seen better decades. Some people would say she's done. I say she's just getting started.

Do you have a left-side chair hiding somewhere? Tell me about it 👇

Two chairs, one muse 💋

A - The red one doesn’t do subtle. Coral-red frame, leopard seat, and Marilyn in black lace.

B - The black one is pure old Hollywood. Glossy black frame, a dreamy, eyes-closed Marilyn, and a soft white rosette seat.

Each is one of a kind. Which one is your style?

I'm stuck. Help me out 🪑

She's got a Paris toile on the back. Poodles, parrots, a little café. Now she needs a seat.

A: Teal velvet
B: Painted stripes

Comment A or B. Majority wins, and I'll reveal her name when she's done.

People often ask how I decide what each chair becomes. Honestly? The chair usually tells me. I wrote a little something about it 👇

Where My Chairs Have Gone

At first it was only a notion,
something faint that took hold
as I sat with a bare frame
and traced the line of its arm,
the slope of its back,
the stubborn grace of its legs.

Then the fabrics began to arrive,
not in the shop, but in my mind:
a stripe here, a faded floral there,
a weave from the other side of the world.
And if I was patient,
the chair would tell me
what it wanted to become.

To paint, or not to paint.
Some days the wood wanted to stay itself.
Some days it asked for color.

And the trim,
a quiet traditional gimp,
or something stranger, bolder,
a little eclectic,
the finishing note
that made the whole chair sing.

Now they are scattered
across the United States,
in living rooms and reading corners,
in houses I will never see.
Each one began as a vision.
Each one became real.
And someone, somewhere,
looked at it and said,
you belong with me.

To everyone who saw
what I saw in those frames,
thank you.
You gave my chairs a home.

You've seen me share chairs shaped entirely by my own imagination — but a lot of what I do starts differently. Many of my chairs begin as commissions, sometimes built from frames I already have on hand, and sometimes from your own chairs that just need a refresh. Marguerite is one example — just one of dozens of frames I currently have available for you to choose from and make your own. 🌼

Meet Marguerite — an Italian carved accent chair with some of the most beautiful carving I've come across.

Daisy blooms at the crest rail, a full floral spray across the apron, and the same detail carried down each cabriole leg. Made in Italy, with the kind of depth that only comes from real craftsmanship.

She's currently in her natural stripped finish: warm honey-blonde wood with traces of old white still sitting in the carving. Gorgeous as-is, or she can be painted any color you like.

Available individually or as a matching pair (two frames in stock). Fabric is sourced and priced separately, and I'll guide you through that whole process from start to finish.

📍 Houston Metro? Message me before you purchase and delivery is free.
🛒 See full details and pricing on Etsy (see my bio for link).
💬 Please reach out first so we can talk through fabric, color, and finish before you commit!

Turnaround is approximately 4-6 weeks once fabric is confirmed.

Meet La Parisienne… well, almost. 🇫🇷

She’s still very much a work in progress, but her personality is beginning to show.

Glossy black, faux croc back, and the first little glimpse of color. Sophisticated? Perhaps. A little daring? Definitely.

There’s much more to come — including the story behind her.

Want to meet La Parisienne before everyone else does?

My newsletter subscribers are always the first to see my newest chairs — before they appear on Etsy or my social media — and they get to discover the story and inspiration behind each one.

If you’d like to be among the first to see La Parisienne when she makes her debut, join the Belle Maison list here:

I have a feeling she’s going to be worth the wait.

When ordinary is not an option.

Some of you may wonder how upholstery became my passion. It started with this chair. 🪑

I bought her in Belgium, about twenty years ago, when I lived there. She was in terrible shape — springs sagging, fabric torn, horsehair poking out everywhere. A genuine antique, and it showed. Most of the copper inlay that gave the frame its detail was gone. But she spoke to me anyway. I just fell in love with the style.

From Belgium, I moved to other countries, then a few different US states. I kept that chair the whole time. I never really had a vision for it; I just loved it.

Then I had time on my hands. I wasn't working full days anymore, and I wanted to do something creative. I looked around for a while — I've never been a crafty person — until I found an upholstery course and couldn't get it out of my head.

I thought of her right away. My little sad chair from the brocante.

I leapt all in. I bought the supplies, bought the tools, and had no idea if I'd even like this new hobby of mine. That's me though. It's all or nothing.

I stripped what was left of the copper inlay and used gold leaf instead.

The fabric on the seat is actually an apron I found online. I'd hoped to track down the fabric it was made from, but couldn't find it anywhere, so I decided to just make the apron itself work. Happy with how that turned out too.

For a first attempt, I think she turned out well. She still sits in our house.

She reminds me how far I've come in this journey, and how a hobby you love can turn into a real business if you've got the passion for it.
