Originally conceived by modernist architect Charlotte Perriand in 1934, La Maison au Bord de l’Eau was designed as an affordable holiday home that could bring thoughtful, functional design to a wider audience. Although the project won second prize in a competition held by L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui, the original design was never built.
Nearly 80 years later, Louis Vuitton brought Perriand’s vision to life for Design Miami 2013 in South Beach. Raised above the sand and organized around a U-shaped plan, the home features sliding glass doors, open living spaces, and furniture designed by Perriand herself. The completed project offers a rare look at her pioneering approach to modern architecture, interiors, and the relationship between everyday living and thoughtful design.
