✨ WHAT MAKES MAGIC MOSS MAGICAL? ✨
Magic Moss isn’t just your average sphagnum moss! It’s a specially blended propagation medium designed to give developing roots the perfect balance of moisture retention, airflow, and support. Every ingredient has a purpose. 🌱
The photo is a fresh batch right before the Myco Supreme gets mixed in!
🌿 PREMIUM SPHAGNUM MOSS
Sphagnum moss is the foundation of Magic Moss. It absorbs and retains moisture, keeping developing roots hydrated without constant watering. Its long, fibrous structure also creates natural air pockets, allowing oxygen to reach the roots.
Unlike dense mediums that can become compacted, sphagnum stays lightweight and gives roots room to grow and spread. It’s especially useful for rooting cuttings, encouraging new root development, and supporting moisture-loving tropical plants.
🪨 PERLITE
Perlite may look like little white rocks, but it’s actually a lightweight, expanded volcanic glass. It improves aeration and drainage, creates additional air pockets, and helps keep the moss from becoming overly dense or waterlogged — especially important for delicate new roots that need both moisture and oxygen.
🌱 VERMICULITE
Vermiculite is a naturally occurring mineral that can hold both moisture and nutrients. It absorbs moisture, then gradually releases it back into the medium, helping maintain steadier hydration between waterings.
It can also hold nutrients such as potassium, magnesium, and calcium and make them available to roots through cation exchange. It isn’t a replacement for fertilizer — think of it as a tiny storage system for developing roots.
🍄 MYCO SUPREME
Now THIS is where some of the real magic happens!
Myco Supreme contains beneficial mycorrhizal fungi — living fungi that can form a partnership with compatible plant roots. Their microscopic networks extend into areas roots may not reach on their own, helping the plant access water and nutrients. In exchange, the plant provides the fungi with sugars produced through photosynthesis.
That partnership can support nutrient uptake, root development, and overall plant health as the fungi establish. Because healthy plants start with healthy roots! 🌱
✨ HOW I USE IT
I reach for Magic Moss when I’m growing Alocasia corms, lining prop boxes, wrapping plants that are struggling to root, and helping sensitive imports establish roots. You can also mix it into Enchanted Earth when you want a more moisture-retentive substrate.
Two honest don’ts:
🚫 Not for carnivorous plants — the myco is really bad for them.
🚫 Not for moss poles — it functions like a substrate, so the perlite and vermiculite can fall out and get messy.
And just like Enchanted Earth, Magic Moss isn’t something I simply put together to sell. It’s something I developed, use on my own plants, and believe in!
